Jackie Fielder is a Democratic Socialists of America- aligned supervisor who represents an area of San Francisco known as the Mission. Fielder recently introduced legislation aimed at limiting the ability of tech companies to create new labs in her district, something she sees as gentrifying the neighborhood.
A venture capitalist and AI investor named Lee Edwards caught wind of this and started attacking the plan on X:
DSA Supervisor @JackieFielder_ is back on her bullshit. She wants to ban all R&D in the Mission, and it looks like she's going to get away with it bc the rest of the BoS isn't paying attention.

Sorry this has to be a thread, but it's fucking insane and you need to know details.
However, in classic Jackie Fielder fashion, this resolution doesn't even do what it says. (Link end of thread.)

Whether it's due to incompetence or intentional dishonesty (equally likely) this res doesn't even mention "drones." It restricts "laboratories."
What is a laboratory?
Unfortunately, this is going to pass.

While we have a simple majority of moderates, we are coming off of a supermajority of DSA clowns, some of whom still remain.
And some of those "moderates" still answer to Luddite special interest groups whose support they think they need.
Fielder responded directly to this on X:
My legislation doesn’t ban anything. AI companies have displaced blue collar job spaces in the Mission. My legislation calls for a review and study of *new* lab use spaces.

These tech bros just want to price out immigrant and working class Latinos out of the Mission forever. https://t.co/4jqXCSwOvW
And Edwards responded to that by calling her a coward for blocking him (well prior to this interaction) and also said it was nonsense that her plan would result in anything other than a defacto ban.
I fucking love this btw. “It’s not a ban, it’s just an 18 month conditional use authorization. (Which you won’t get.)“

And then she proceeds to state that she hates tech. And wants us to believe she will treat tech businesses fairly under this badly written, spiteful resolution.
This led to Fielder posting an Instagram video in which she said "technofascist" tech bros were angry at her. She said they were fascists like Elon Musk.
Things escalated once again when Garry Tan, a well-known venture capitalist in San Francisco, responded to having "tech bros" labeled fascists, saying it was a way to excuse violence.
They call you fascist so they can justify violence against you
— Garry Tan (@garrytan) December 16, 2025
I can afford security but it is going to be a big problem when Jackie Fielder’s violent friends target us as a community.
Jackie’s former campaign manager threatened me with the guillotine openly on Twitter.

Jackie’s former campaign manager threatened me with the guillotine openly on Twitter.
AI founder @AISinEater was violently attacked in the Mission with a lead pipe which caused him to lose partial vision in his eye and during his recovery he was targeted with anti tech hate mail.
We have to organize and mobilize as a community against their elected officials.
That seems to be all for now. Fielder, as a DSA member, is focused on class issues and gentrification. The tech investors are concerned about demonization, something we definitely saw when it came to Elon Musk earlier this year. (Remember all the cars vandalized and set on fire?) And Garry Tan is correct that a tech co-founder was beaten in the street back in January and his assailant was never caught.
as a result of his attack, i’m partially blind in my right eye and can’t hear well out of my left ear. he attacked me when i was walking home from the corner store for absolutely no reason. he did not end up stealing my phone or wallet but he did rip off all my jewelry and…

Given that this happened in Fielder's district, maybe demonizing tech bros as fascists isn't a great idea.
