The most obvious thing in the world probably doesn't qualify as "news" to most HotAir readers but it does to the folks over at NBC News. Today they have a story up about some of the far-left online accounts that are pushing for more violence and destruction from a group of people who have already done a lot of damage in Los Angeles.
NBC hasn't completely separated itself from the "fiery but peaceful" mob of other media outlets but in this piece they do at least notice that there is a clear pattern to how the far-left operates. [emphasis added]
It was approaching nightfall in Los Angeles on Sunday when black-clad demonstrators began to torch a row of self-driving Waymo taxis. Within minutes, videos of the fiery scenes began to pop up on social media.
“MORE. MORE AND MORE AND MORE,” a group known as Unity of Fields posted on X, along with a video of the flaming vehicles.
It’s part of a far-left online ecosystem that has proliferated in recent years, experts say. Some of the groups behind the accounts express contempt for peaceful resistance and glorify acts of violence — and even murders, like those of the UnitedHealthcare CEO and two Israeli Embassy staffers...
The unrest in Los Angeles follows a pattern that has played out in numerous cities over the past five years in which protests that break out remain mostly peaceful during the day, but at night agitators engage in fiery clashes with police.
I wrote about Unity of Fields in March when they were mostly focused on supporting violence and vandalism at Columbia University. Here's a bit of what Unity of Fields has been promoting in the past 24-hours, starting with Elias Rodriguez who murdered two Jews in Washington DC and shouted "Free Palestine."

They are also very excited by the message "Kill ICE Agents" spray painted on walls.

And they love this video of people attacking at an ICE facility in Tucson.
The community in Tucson repels ICE invaders by spraying them with paint balls, throwing metal barricades and other projectiles, while defending the crowd with shields, helmets/goggles, and a tight formation. They are quoting Yahya Sinwar the now deceased planner behind the 10/7 attack on Israel.
"This city will expose all the normalizers, and disgrace all the collaborators, and reveal the truth about all those who neglected and abandoned the cause."

- The eternal martyr Yahya Al Sinwar
Anyway, it's remarkable that NBC has finally noticed these extremists who have been pumping out this kind of content since last August. NBC quotes from a few experts including one from GWU who says it's not true that there is a group of roving anarchists who travel from protest to protest stirring things up. But he does admit there has been a normalization of violence on the left.
Really? Ya think? After all the celebration of Luigi Mangione and Hamas and Elias Rodriguez by the left I don't think you really need an expert opinion to grasp this. Still a spokesman from the Network Contagion Research Institute makes some good points.
“What we found in our research is there are groups that were attempting to exploit the situation, oftentimes after dark, and their coordination was somewhat sophisticated,” said Alex Goldenberg, a senior adviser to the Network Contagion Research Institute.
That involved demonstrators’ surveilling police movements and sharing tips about making the most destructive Molotov cocktails, Goldenberg said.
“They were trying to exploit an already volatile situation in an attempt to provoke violent clashes with police, create viral moments to inflame tensions and draw in others through emotional triggers,” he said.
The co-founder of Network Contagion is Joel Finkelstein, who is a psychologist (Ph.D. from Princeton). He describes the people behind this "assassination culture" as those desperately looking for control and significance in their lives.
“My sense is that beneath these grievances is a shared sense of loss of control,” said Finkelstein, who is a psychologist and a neuroscientist. “Who are the people that really feel a sense of hopelessness in their lives? Most are looking for significance, and they think they found it here.”
In other words, most of these goons are probably sad cases living in mom's basement while they threaten to burn down the system. That doesn't mean they can't be dangerous though as they encourage other people to get violent.
This culture of letting all of these fascist crackers mosey around our spaces with cameras while we "just focus on the enemy" needs to stop. Nick Shirley and freaks like him are your enemy, they are endangering everyone there and they should be THROWN THE FUCK OUT of our zones. https://t.co/ZHrN9VXjEn

Kudos to NBC News for breaking from the pack enough to speak some truth about the left-wing extremists who are doing their best to make sure the outcome of these protests are as extreme and violent as possible.
