Another Record Month at the Border as Blinken Heads to Mexico to Beg for Relief

Karen wrote earlier today about the new Texas border law (which will go into effect in March) and the DOJ’s threat to sue the state to block its implementation. Why is the Biden administration fighting so hard to prevent anyone else from doing the job they are failing to do? And they clearly are failing. Bill Melugin reports today that December’s border encounters have already set a new record with three days still to go.

The rest of Melugin’s tweet reads:

Record is being shattered.

This new record number includes over 230,000 Border Patrol apprehensions of illegal immigrants in December, also the highest single month of apprehensions ever recorded for Border Patrol.
We are now at over 760,000 migrant encounters since October 1st, making the first quarter of fiscal year 2024 also the highest ever recorded. Thats a population size bigger than Seattle in just three months.

All records being blown out of the water under the Biden admin as the crisis gets worse – not better.

I included Elon Musk’s response just because, despite being the world’s richest man, he sees this the way a lot of normie Americans do. It just seems crazy to be dealing with 10,000 people crossing the border per day and the equivalent of the city of Seattle every quarter. Who is going to feed and shelter all of these people? Who is going to pay for their health insurance while they wait 7 years to see an asylum judge? Answer: You are dear taxpayer, one way or another.

Just think for a moment about how many new schools need to be built to educate all of the children who are arriving. There were just shy of 13,000 minors crossing the border in November alone. That’s probably 2-3 large high schools plus several elementary and junior high schools worth of kids in a single month. Even setting aside the cost of new buildings, taxpayers are going to pay around $14,000 a year for each of those minors to attend school until they graduate. Assuming most of those minors won’t be deported and will be staying at least 5-8 years while their parents claim asylum, the US could be spending $182 million on just the kids who arrived in November and that’s just for one year of school. Obviously if these kids are 5, we’ll be paying for a lot more than one year of school.

The point is that we’re talking about hundreds of millions of dollars of new expenses being passed on to taxpayers in various ways every time another quarter million people arrive at the border.  And that’s happening once a month now. It’s a great deal for them, which is why they are coming, but it’s not a great deal for the people paying for all of it. New York spent a billion dollars this year and that’s just for the tiny fraction of people sent their on buses and they’ll probably be spending the same or more next year with no end in sight.

Karen pointed out earlier this week that the mother of all migrant caravans is currently headed for our border. The Biden administration hastily arranged a meeting between Sec. Blinken and Mexico’s president ALMO to try to convince him to do something about stopping the migrants before they reach the US border.

About 7,500 people from 24 different countries were believed to be part of a massive group making its way north Wednesday through the Mexican state of Chiapas on the border of Guatemala, Luis García Villagrán, an organizer of the migrant caravan and activist, told NBC News. He said a group of women, children and sick people was farther ahead and had reached Mapastepec…

The caravan’s journey comes as Blinken, López Obrador, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and White House homeland security advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall meet in Mexico City on Wednesday to discuss “unprecedented irregular migration in the Western Hemisphere and identify ways Mexico and the United States will address border security challenges,” according to a State Department statement…

Last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered a record number of undocumented migrants crossing the border. At the same time, according to three Homeland Security officials, U.S. border facilities had a record number of migrants in custody.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that whatever Blinken gets out of this will be somewhere between nothing and not much. The Biden administration is on its 3rd or 4th effort to control this and so far nothing they’ve done has worked. Each month the numbers just keep getting worse. Biden once said he didn’t want to see 2 million people show up at the border but he’s now averaging well over 2 million showing up per year. Not all of those people get in but by the end of his first term the US will have absorbed the population of a decent sized state. At some point you’d think Biden would want to do something about this out of pure political survival instinct. We’ve seen what happens in Europe when immigration goes unchecked for too long. People vote conservative and toss out the people who allowed it. It will happen here too if the number of migrants at the border keeps going up every month.
