I think these are the 13th and 14th staffers to have left Kamala Harris over the past 18 months but I’ve actually lost count. In any case, the Washington Post reports today that one of her longest serving aides is leaving next month to spend more time with her family.

Vice President Harris is set to lose one of her closest and longest-serving aides in August with the departure of domestic policy adviser Rohini Kosoglu, whose planned exit follows a major shake-up of the office late last year and into the spring.

Kosoglu, 38, previously served as chief of staff in Harris’s Senate office and on her unsuccessful presidential campaign. Her decision to leave comes amid concerns among some Democrats about high turnover on the vice president’s team and Harris’s political viability at a time when President Biden is saddled with low approval ratings.

In an interview, Kosoglu — who has three sons, ages 9, 6 and almost 3 — cited a desire to spend more time with her family and dismissed the notion that her departure should be viewed as part of a pattern of staff instability…

Harris’s chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, deputy chief of staff Michael Fuchs and national security adviser Nancy McEldowney left in the spring. That followed the departure late last year of several top aides, including chief spokesperson Symone Sanders and communications chief Ashley Etienne. In all, at least 13 staffers have left Harris’s office since last summer.

Symone Sanders left Harris at the end of last year. The post stayed vacant for a couple months until March when Harris hired Kirsten Allen for the position. But that wasn’t the only shakeup among the communications staff. Speechwriter Kate Childs Graham left in February. She was replaced in April by Meghan Groob. Today, in what looks like a Friday afternoon news dump, Politico reports that Groob is leaving after just four months.

How bad must things be working for Kamala Harris if a young woman working what must have been a dream job can only hang on for four short months? What’s equally remarkable is that even when reporting on the turnover the media doesn’t bother to mention reports going back a year now that Harris’ office is dysfunctional and “not healthy.” Here’s a bit of what Politico reported last June:

“People are thrown under the bus from the very top, there are short fuses and it’s an abusive environment,” said another person with direct knowledge of how Harris’ office is run. “It’s not a healthy environment and people often feel mistreated. It’s not a place where people feel supported but a place where people feel treated like s—.”…

The morale level for current Harris staffers is “rough” and in many ways similar to the failed presidential campaign and her Senate office, according to the former Senate aide, who is in touch with current Harris staffers.

Again, that report was in Politico, yet for some reason when Politico runs a story today about a speechwriter leaving after barely 4 months, they don’t mention or link the previous story as if there’s no relevant background here that readers might have missed and should be made aware of. It’s like their heart just isn’t in it for some reason.

One of these days someone is going to write a juicy memoir about their time working for the Vice President but until then it seems the media is going to do its best to downplay what is clearly a chaotic and unpleasant place to work.
