Still No Press Conference With Kamala?

The majority of the legacy media continues to fawn over Kamala Harris and how she has "revitalized" the Democratic Party and pumped new life into the presidential election. Her somewhat bizarre (weird?) decision to select Tim Walz has her running mate has spurred another cycle of MSM excitement, as reporters from many outlets race to find ways to not talk about either of their records. Of course, Harris is making the "don't talk about it" part of the equation a lot easier thus far. Fox News is pointing out one uncomfortable fact about the Harris campaign that can't be ignored straight through the election. In the 16 days since Kamala Harris was somehow declared the presumptive nominee without ever having to face a primary challenge, she has yet to hold a formal press conference where she would take questions from the press. Yes, she shows up at rallies and reads prepared remarks and waits for the inevitable applause of her dedicated fans, but shouldn't the press be doing their job and getting her to talk about her record and her plans for the country if she is elected?

Vice President Kamala Harris has gone 16 days without holding a formal press conference since becoming the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee as of Tuesday.

Harris became essentially the de facto nominee after President Biden endorsed her on July 21 when he dropped out of the race and she officially clinched the nomination last week. She has been busy on the campaign trail, spoken at various events, and given informal remarks to reporters at various points, but hasn’t done a formal press conference or wide-ranging interview in the 16 days that have followed.

She also failed to appear at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, where former President Trump made headlines on Wednesday with a heated question-and-answer session, although she could make a future appearance with the group.

I was watching CNN's coverage of Walz's emergence on the campaign trail as the VP pick this morning. They were fawning over him just as they've done over Harris. The network's chyron summed up their attitude nicely. "Walz Delivers Searing Trump-Vance Rebuke in Debut Speech as VP Pick." Really? "Searing?" I listened to it and it sounded like the usual load of malarkey to me, as the current POTUS might say. CNN listed a number of bullet points about Walz, describing him as a "moderate Democrat" who has supported increased border security and once even voted with the GOP about something.

Clearly the legacy news networks are desperate to paint a picture of Walz that makes him look less radically liberal than Kamala Harris. Much like Harris, the alphabet networks seem to be tripping over themselves in an effort to not talk about his actual record in Minnesota, which is truly nothing to write home about. That won't be too difficult to accomplish for the time being because Walz isn't exactly champing at the bit to hold a formal press conference either.

The game plan appears to be to keep the "honeymoon" for the newly cemented ticket going as long as possible and not hit Harris or Walz with any tough questions. If and when they do begin taking questions you can expect to see a lot of softballs being thrown. Neither candidate will sit down with the anchors at Fox News (where they have both been invited repeatedly) because that's probably the only place where their respective records would be seriously scrutinized.

It's not as if Walz doesn't have a lot to answer for, as Dan McLaughlin pointed out at the New York Post today. He not only instituted aggressive lockdowns of Minnesotans during COVID, but he set up a hotline for people to snitch on their neighbors. Any regrets about that? When the George Floyd rioters burned down his state's largest city, he mostly stood back and said nothing, never trying to round up and prosecute the rioters. The cost of living has shot up while the quality of living decreased in Minnesota during his tenure. Yes, there is plenty for Walz to answer for just as there are countless progressive skeletons in Kamala Harris' closet. Will anyone ever be given the opportunity to pose those questions? And if the opportunity arises, will they actually do their jobs and ask? Time will tell, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
