Congressional Baseball Game Broken Up Again

Last night the annual congressional baseball game was scheduled to support various charities in the DC area. This event has been taking place for more than 100 years and it offers the chance for some bipartisan cooperation toward a good cause. But the proceedings last night were once again disrupted by protesters who stormed the field and brought the activities to a halt. You might be tempted to assume that these were more of the pro-Hamas crazies looking to start some trouble, but they weren't. These protesters were organized by a group called Climate Defiance and they were there to protest fossil fuels and climate change. If they were waiting for the crowd to leap in and join them in their protest, they were severely disappointed. People began booing and the Capitol Hill security forces were having none of it. They quickly chased down and tackled the protesters, handcuffing some of them and leading them away. Eight people were arrested. (Fox News)

Several arrests were made at the Congressional Baseball Game for Charity on Wednesday night, after individuals who appeared to be protesters of climate change stormed the field at Nationals Park in D.C.

The game, which raises money for local charities in the D.C. area, features Democrats and Republicans from the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

Climate change protesters were seen chanting with signs that read, "Stop playing games with our future," and shirts that read, "End Fossil Fuels" before several people jumped onto the field.

You can watch some of the action in this brief video from the New York Post.

If there is any upside to this, the protest was far less serious than the 2017 game where Steve Scalise and five other people were shot by a madman. This climate change crew really didn't appear to have much of a plan other than to leap onto the field and run around. Curiously enough they appeared to be protesting against Joe Biden, who talks about combatting climate change constantly.

Curiously, the group claimed in their chanting and in social media posts that the baseball game was sponsored by Chevron, hence their desire to shut it down.

It's true that Chevron is one of the many sponsors of the game, as they have openly admitted. But neither their participation nor the game itself has anything to do with Chevron's core business in the energy industry. This is strictly a charitable event intended to raise money to help the less fortunate. Of course, I don't expect much in the way of common sense from the climate cult, If they could focus their efforts on something at least vaguely related to climate issues, perhaps they would attract a few more followers. There weren't very many of them at the game last night from what I could tell.

If you go through their website, Climate Defiance seems to be all over the map. Their primary focus appears to be on putting an end to the use of fossil fuels as one might expect. But they also proudly claim to "stand in solidarity with our sister-struggles for racial and economic justice." (Yes, I was rolling my eyes at that point.) In other words, they appear to be looking to stir up trouble in the name of pretty much any left-wing cause that comes down the pike.

I wonder if they realize that they aren't winning over any new converts when they make a habit of disrupting normal society. They are free to engage in peaceful demonstrations all they like, of course. But disrupting a charity event is not simply "speech." It's a criminal act. Now they have the nerve to act surprised when some of them are taken to jail. Don't cry too hard, kids. You're small potatoes compared to the rest of the threats facing law enforcement these days. The police will lose interest in you soon enough.
