I suppose we should have seen this one coming as soon as the Democrats regained control of the House. But even as jaded as I’ve probably become, I didn’t think Congress would be embracing this level of crazy in the form of actual legislation. We’ve now witnessed almost the entire Democratic caucus in the House signing on to a bill that would require all public schools in the country to allow boys who “identify” as girls to compete in girls’ sports. This move would effectively end competitive female sports in the United States, a bastion that is already under attack on a regular basis. (Daily Caller)
Every House Democrat but one has co-sponsored a bill requiring schools to allow male athletes who identify as transgender girls to compete on female sports teams.
Democrats’ Equality Act would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make “sexual orientation and gender identity” protected characteristics under federal anti-discrimination law. Among other things, the bill would force public schools to expand female athletic teams to include biological males who identify as transgender girls.
Sarah Warbelow, director of the left-wing Human Rights Campaign, praised the bill’s impact on high school sports in written testimony submitted to a House subcommittee on Tuesday.
“Opponents of equality in athletics for transgender athletes have argued that girls who are transgender have unfair physiological advantages over cisgender girls and as a result, will dominate women’s competitive sports,” Warbelow wrote, calling it not “rooted in fact” that biologically male athletes will outperform their female counterparts.
The partisan, tone-deaf nature of this maneuver is stunning. And the denial of reality among Democrats on the subject is truly breathtaking. Jerry Nadler actually stated (without evidence, as CNN likes to say), “Many states have sexual orientation and gender identity nondiscrimination laws, and all of them still have women’s sports. Arguments about transgender athletes participating in sports in accordance with their gender identity having competitive advantages have not been borne out.”
Tell that to self-described “radical feminist” Julia Beck. She spoke out on this bill, saying “Men will dominate female sports.”
Every Democrat except Illinois Congressman Dan Lipinski signed on to this bill as co-sponsors. Shockingly, they even got two Republicans to go along with the madness. (John Katko of New York and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania.) This stunning and perhaps purposeful ignorance of recent history should be giving everyone pause.
Lest we forget, in October of last year, a man won the women’s world cycling championship. The Connecticut girls high school state track championships have now been dominated for two years running by a pair of boys. Boys are winning girls high school wrestling championships, while in other cases, girls “transitioning” to boys are beating the rest of the girls after being pumped full of testosterone. For Pete’s sake, we even have men beating all the women in weightlifting.
How much more evidence do you need? Even if you want to abandon basic science and claim that someone born with a Y chromosome and all the normal genital features of a boy can be a girl, aren’t we supposed to be protecting young women? It’s incredible that Congress could seriously consider such an action just so the Democrats can fluff up their credibility with the LGBT community in an election season. Fortunately, I seriously doubt this bill will ever see the light of day in the Senate and I can’t imagine President Trump signing it. But the message being sent here is both alarming and distressing all the same.
