Video: Joy Reid ponders... what if Trump won't surrender to the U.S. Marshals?

I didn’t actually catch this particular meltdown on Sunday because I don’t watch Joy Reid’s show on MSNBC. And I generally don’t write about her because she’s long since drifted away from the point of being relevant and simply campaigns to impeach the President. But this week, rather than describing her sweet impeachment dreams, Reid took it to the next level. She concocted a scenario where Donald Trump would be frog-marched out of the Oval Office and into a jail cell.

The topic came up during a panel discussion where she speculated that Robert Mueller would eventually demand that Trump come in for a meeting and offer testimony under oath. From that starting point, she assumes that Trump has so much to hide that he would simply refuse to go. The hypothetical scenarios play out from there in classic, liberal fantasyland fashion. Sunday on her weekend morning program, MSNBC’s Joy Reid seriously discussed a situation where President Trump refused a subpoena and would have to be arrested and put in jail until he testified before a grand jury. Reid envisioned a scenario of a White House besieged by federal marshals who would wait for Trump to give the Secret Service a stand down order so he could be taken into custody.

“Let’s say that Donald Trump decides he doesn’t want to give an interview with Mueller, but Mueller says ‘Oh, but you will.’ And he’s subpoenaed to [be] interview[ed] [by] Robert Mueller. And Donald Trump simply says, ‘I don’t recognize that subpoena.’ This is a president whose behavior is different as president of the United States. He doesn’t follow convention. Who would force him to comply with the subpoena ordering him to do an interview with Robert Mueller?” Reid asked.

“It would be a federal court judge,” former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman said.

Let’s go to the video, because plain text doesn’t do this performance justice. You can pretty much hear the wheels spinning in Reid’s head as she fantasizes about the idea of cameras catching the President being led away in leg irons.

It doesn’t stop with the quoted comments above. Simply explaining how a subpoena could be issued for his testimony doesn’t satisfy Reid. She blazes through a variety of scenarios where Trump refuses to go for a meeting with Mueller and then refuses a judges order that he go, speculating that he might bar admittance of anyone from the Justice Department to the Oval Office. And if the Secret Service wants to let them in? She speculates that he might “fire” all of his security detail.

Reid wasn’t the one who initially brought up the idea of the U.S. Marshals arresting Trump, however. She kept asking one implausible question after another and it was one of her guests, Nick Akerman, a law partner at Dorsey and Whitney, who said that eventually Trump would have to leave the White House and the marshals could physically take him into custody.

This segment broke down into what was clearly a masturbatory fantasy for liberals. The idea of the President not just being called on to testify in an investigation where even Mueller is supposedly saying he’s not a target, but humiliated by being arrested in public is the stuff of dreams in Joy’s world. And so what if it’s just a fantasy? That’s apparently what drives MSNBC’s ratings in that time slot and she’s serving up the goods.

I still remember back in February of 2015 when the network showed at least a momentary flicker of common sense and canceled Reid’s weekday afternoon show, The Reid Report. (Which was losing in the ratings to a guy three offices down shouting out his window.) She was shuffled off to weekend mornings, leaving many to speculate as to how much longer she would be getting a paycheck there. Perhaps it’s time for them to finally finish the process.
