Gabriel Malor wrote earlier about the arrest in the case of the bomb threats made against Jewish community centers and Synagogues. I’m sure there were more than a few of you who were shocked to learn that it was allegedly all the work of an Israeli-American citizen living in Israel. His motives may not be clearly defined for a while, but mental illness is being alleged as at least one factor. Hopefully he was acting alone and the treats will stop now, but it’s worth asking the question of whether or not the mainstream media will take any lessons away from this. On the odd chance you don’t know what I’m talking about, let’s just admit that everyone was expecting the perpetrator to turn out to be some deranged Trump supporter who was taking a break from his KKK meetings to make a few phone calls.

Why would we think that? Without coming out and directly say it, nearly every report referenced the “rise of nationalism and radical hate crimes since the election of Donald Trump” every time one of these bomb threats came in. We didn’t need anyone to fill in the blanks for us. And Trump’s “response” was never sufficient either. Take a look at this February report from CNN, none too subtly titled, More bomb threats target Jewish community. Trump finally responds. (Emphasis added)

On February 20, another wave of bomb threats hit 11 JCCs across the country, bringing the total to 68 incidents targeting 53 JCCs, according to the JCCA.

That night, Ivanka Trump, who converted to Judaism, tweeted: “America is a nation built on the principle of religious tolerance. We must protect our houses of worship & religious centers. #JCC”.

Ivanka Trump was the first member of the Trump family to comment on the bomb threats. The next day, President Donald Trump himself denounced the JCC bomb threats and anti-Semitism.

This is only one example of many. The story line being peddled was always clear to see. Since Trump came to town a wave of hate crimes was sweeping the nation and the new President simply couldn’t be bothered to care. There are more examples out there than we could count without sucking up the entire day.

And now it turns out to allegedly be the work of a Jewish Israeli-American citizen living in Israel who probably has mental issues. Not exactly your typical Trump supporter or member of the Klan, eh? And if he really was responsible for most, if not all of the bomb threats across several continents, how many other are left to be accounted for? Was there ever really a “wave” of hate crimes by Trump supporters to begin with? Or was that just the too tempting narrative of the day which our major media outlets simply couldn’t pass up?

We’ll wait with baited breath to see if any apologies are forthcoming.
