Finally! Somebody to take on Christie in NJ

New Jersey has often been described as a state permanently embroiled in partisan warfare between two political armies: Liberal Democrats and REALLY Liberal Democrats. As such, it’s no surprise that many among the old guard were taken by surprise and tremendously displeased when Republican Chris Christie was elected governor. Sadly, he doesn’t show any signs of going away unless it’s by way of heading to the White House. What’s a Democrat to do? Well, if you’re from Jersey and you need to call in the seriously big guns, there’s only one man for the job.

Has New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie already seen his “Glory Days?”…

The more intriguing race is a fantasy showdown between Christie and one of his biggest critics, the real, nonmetaphorical rock star, Bruce Springsteen.

According to PPP, the Freehold, N.J., native would start off any race tied at 42% with Christie, but with room to grow among Democratic voters.

I was somewhat shocked to find out that Chris Christie is actually a far bigger fan of The Boss than I and claims to have seen Bruce play live in excess of 120 times. (For the record, I’ve lost count over the years, but I don’t think I’ve been to more than two dozen Springsteen concerts. But I did see him at the Stone Pony back in the day and went to a lot of shows at the Vet.)

I’m not going to come before the Hot Air faithful and apologize for being a lifelong fan of the Boss. I grew up on his music. And it’s actually an additional point in Christie’s favor that he came up in the same tradition, being a Jersey native. But I also am well aware that electing celebrities to political office has historically not always been the best idea. (Were I more cynical I might bring up Al Franken right now.)

Springsteen has strong opinions and he’s a full time Democrat. He supported Obama in a very visible fashion and will doubtless continue to promote the liberal agenda he believes in. I’m OK with that. He gets to vote just like the rest of us and God bless him for doing so. But The Boss has virtually nothing on his resume which would lead one to believe that he could manage the affairs of the state of New Jersey.

Let’s not be silly. Just listen to the man’s music and let him eat his waffle. And now… The Boss in his best days, doing Thunder Road live in 1976 at one of the first tours where I ever saw him.
