You know how Democrats keep pounding Republicans over “too high consumer prices” as they try to take back the House and Senate this fall?
Well, some of their friends in Big Pharma are determined to make sure they have plenty of material to aid them in misrespresenting who is costing Americans all that dough.
After jacking up drug prices earlier this year, some of those very companies are posting spectacular results on Wall Street.
Novartis just last month smashed earnings expectations, having made net sales at $14.41 billion versus a forecast of $13.96 billion.
A ton of that was down to sales of just two drugs: Kisqali pulled in $1.7 billion for the company, and Cosentyx sales jumped 12% to $1.82 billion.
Roche beat Wall Street too, with operating profit up 10%. It’s medication Ocrevus alone raked in $4.3 billion in a single quarter.
The price of all of those drugs was hiked by above-the-rate-of-inflation amounts earlier this year. And even worse, the biggest hikes came on drugs to treat multiple sclerosis and heart conditions.
