An artificial intelligence program generated a police report falsely claiming a Utah police officer shape-shifted into a frog last month.
The Heber City Police Department began testing an AI-powered software called Draft One, which automatically generates police reports from body camera footage, according to KSTU-TV. The goal was to reduce paperwork, but the software misinterpreted background audio, requiring the department to correct the report and explain what happened.
“The body cam software and the AI [report-writing] software picked up on the movie that was playing in the background, which happened to be ‘The Princess and the Frog,'” Sgt. Keel told KTSU. “That’s when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports.”
Despite the error, Keel told the outlet that the technology has saved him “six to eight hours” of work weekly.
