“Israel has utterly rejected this,” he said. “Hamas is not going to agree to anything like this, where they don’t get to run Gaza. The Palestinian Authority is not going to agree to give up power or to reform itself.”

The discussions are taking place so President Joe Biden “can be seen to be doing something,” said Fleitz. “I think in the end, this proposal will fail and Israel will be blamed. This is a terrible way for us to treat such an important ally.”
