The Atlanta Falcons have hired Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris as their head coach after an exhaustive search that included six-time Super Bowl winner Bill Belichick, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday. …
Morris was just 33 years old when he got his first head coaching job with the Buccaneers in 2009. He lasted three seasons, finishing with one winning season, no playoff appearances and a record of 17-31.
[Morris served as an interim HC in Atlanta in 2020, but didn’t exactly wow the head office at that time with a 4-7 record to finish the season. That was his last job as head coach before today, with a lifetime record of 21-38 against Belichick’s 333-178 lifetime record. I’d guess that the Falcons want a younger man who has potential to stick around for a while rather than a 72-year-old Hall of Famer that seems to have run out of gas without Tom Brady as his QB. — Ed]
