The Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups have reportedly rejected an Egyptian proposal that would see Hamas give up control of the Strip in return for a permanent ceasefire.
According to two Egyptian sources cited by the Reuters news agency, the plan has been rejected by both of the terror groups.
Hamas and PIJ are said to be unwilling to discuss any concessions beyond the release of hostages.
[Israel probably wouldn’t have accepted these terms anyway beyond a momentary pause for an exchange to free the hostages. This certainly clarifies the position of Hamas and PIJ, though. They want a war of annihilation, which is no surprise because they started one on October 7 and have been trying to start one for the last 17 years. Egypt understands that Hamas and PIJ can’t have any part of a Gaza at peace, and so do Hamas and PIJ, so let the two sides finish this war that Hamas wants. It’s the only way to ensure they don’t return to power in Gaza. — Ed]
