Oklahoma is God's country, says ... Gwen Stefani

“I am not really a dirt person, a bug person, I don’t like that much humidity,” Stefani told the outlet. “But it’s so beautiful [in Oklahoma], and you kind of feel like you’re going into this vortex. Nature — and God — is all right there.”

The mom of three also said how she never expected to be living this sort of life. “When I was young, I’d walk home from school and see my mom in her shorts doing her gardening, and my dad would be cutting the trees and make me pick up the branches. I’d be like, ‘I’m never having a tree at my house,’” she said.

After describing herself as a “garden flower nerd” now, Stefani said, “When we get to Oklahoma, we’re constantly working — and it’s a different kind of work. It’s probably what my mom was doing back in the day, and now I get it!”

[Good for her. I hope she finds true peace, happiness, and the Lord in Oklahoma. I find that I have traveled toward the rustic over the course of my life as well, not entirely on purpose, but it’s made me happier. I grew up in the Los Angeles megalopolis and stayed there (with a brief interruption to Phoenix) for 34 years. Suburban Minnesota provided a slower and friendlier pace, and central Texas has been simply heaven … except for the excessive heat this particular summer, which is still sticking around. — Ed]
