New: Canada Speaker resigns after honoring an actual Nazi

The Speaker of Canada’s House of Commons has resigned after unwittingly praising a Ukrainian man who fought for a Nazi unit and inviting him to parliament.

After first resisting calls to step down, Anthony Rota quit on Tuesday after meeting party leaders in Ottawa.

“I must step down as your Speaker,” he said in parliament. “I reiterate my profound regret.”

[It’s really difficult to understand why people don’t know the history of Ukraine-Russian tensions. Stalin starved somewhere between 3-4 millions in the Holodomor genocide, a campaign to suppress independence in Ukraine. The Nazis took advantage of the hatred that followed by initially recruiting ethnic Ukrainians to fight the Russians in the early part of the war a few years afterward under command of the SS, and those units also took part in atrocities along with the Nazis. That doesn’t make present-day Ukrainians Nazis, but Russia’s bitterness against Ukrainian separatists isn’t entirely irrational either. Grasping that might have prevented Canada from hailing an *actual* Nazi — or at least a Nazi-aligned Ukrainian — as a hero this month. It demonstrates perfectly what a clown Trudeau is, however. — Ed]
