The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday unanimously rejected a bid from former President Donald Trump’s legal team to block an investigation from Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis into his efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in the Peach State. …
“The Court has made clear that a petitioner cannot invoke this Court’s original jurisdiction as a way to circumvent the ordinary channels for obtaining the relief,” the ruling stated. “He is asking this Court to step in and itself decide the motions currently pending in the superior court. This is not the sort of relief that this court affords, at least absent extraordinary circumstances that petitioner has not shown are present here.”
[In other words, the issue is not yet ripe for review. That doesn’t mean that Trump and his team might not have grounds for a successful appeal later, but they have to have a ruling first before they can appeal it. If Willis does have charges pending, those will have to get put in place and then contested in the normal process. Clearly, though, Trump’s team thinks charges are coming, and that they will likely be damaging to his prospects. — Ed]
