RICK SCOTT, who just emerged from closed-door Senate GOP lunch, says a time agreement seems close and the Senate intends to finish the debt limit bill and amendment votes TODAY.

Leaving lunch, Sens. Rick Scott and Mitt Romney told me that senators are looking to finish up the debt limit vote tonight. Meaning amendment votes (which will fail) and final passage. They still need an agreement of all 100 senators, but the goal is to get a final vote tonight.

[I am skeptical of this claim. The bill will pass, but the Senate would need unanimous consent to eliminate significant procedural steps, and there’s too much declared opposition to think that no one would throw a wrench in that process. We’ll see. — Ed]
