Mayor Don McLaughlin said after a city council meeting the school will be demolished after 19 children and two teachers were murdered on may 24 by an 18-year-old gunman.

“My understanding — and I had this discussion with the superintendent — that school will be demolished,” McLaughlin said. “You can never ask a child to go back or teacher to go back in that school ever.”

No timetable was offered for the demolition.
