In Florida, less than 6% of beds in intensive care units were empty, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Nearly 54% of patients in ICUs were being treated for the highly contagious respiratory disease.

There were 17,164 people being treated for COVID-19 in regular units at hospitals across the state, an 11.1% increase in a week.
Locally, the agency reported that no ICU beds were available at JFK Hospital in Atlantis, Palms West Hospital in Royal Palm Beach and West Boca Medical Center. Wellington Regional and Lakeside medical centers each had less than 9% of its ICU beds available.
