Poll: Trump voters disappointed he won't seek to prosecute Hillary Clinton

Americans who voted for Donald Trump think his transition team is making a bad decision by backing away from his threat to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account and server while she was secretary of state, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov survey.

The president-elect won’t seek to pursue criminal charges against his rival, his former campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, told MSNBC early last week. Trump himself later made less definitive comments to the same effect, telling the New York Times that he doesn’t “want to hurt the Clintons.”

The about-face drew some ire from both sides of the aisle, with opponents calling it an attack on the Department of Justice’s independence and the generally Trump-friendly Breitbart News labeling the decision a “broken promise.”
