Dem Running for NJ Governor Whole Lot of Horrible Same

A congresswoman named Mikie Sherrill won the nomination for New Jersey governor in the blue state's recent primary and I thought, not knowing anything other than her party, it might be worth a trip down the rabbithole as the race warms up.

Especially when I saw this Xweet regarding her sudden silence when she had previously been a YUGE offshore wind advocate.

Other than the residents of the state absolutely loathing the idea, I wonder what's changed for her? You know, besides pure political calculation.

She's also one of those miracle congresscritters who hits D.C. on the minimum congressional salary and triples their net worth.

Man - I am all over it. If I can't get a 63% yearly raise like a member of Michelle Wu's city hall team, well then, send me to Congress!

It's a cool trick when you pull it off with trades that just might be related to stocks associated with your committee assignments, and even cooler when you conveniently forget to mention it...time and time again.

New Jersey Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill under investigation for stock trades linked to congressional committees

U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.) is facing renewed criticism over her financial activities in Congress, including a reported failure to disclose up to $350,000 in stock sales and multiple trades tied to her committee assignments.

Her opponent, Jack Ciattarelli launched a new website today called “Mikie Made Millions” and is actively investigating the congresswoman’s financial fortunes.

When asked about these trades and her success on Wall Street, Sherrill chalked it up to being lucky.

According to Business Insider, Sherrill paid a fine in 2021 for violating the STOCK Act, a federal law designed to prevent conflicts of interest by requiring lawmakers to promptly disclose stock transactions. The outlet reported she “failed to properly disclose up to $350,000 in stock sales.”

No worries, though. She's (D)ifferent.

Which means she's exactly like every Democrat ever. Are they all punched out of the same mold?

Sure looks like it.

Why, you could almost make the argument they're even grown together like pod people, and then shipped out across the country to do their evil deeds.

Sherrill has been in the state since 2010, so she's not quite the carpetbagger that Hillary was, but she still has that upper-class Virginia sheen.

As her campaign platforms go, for a Naval Academy graduate, being a former Navy helo pilot, and a federal prosecutor, you'd think the woman could articulate what she wanted to do in New Jersey with her eyes closed.

But she can barely blurt out a brain-farty-Kamala-Harris answer here when asked, 'If you could pass one piece of legislation, WHAT WOULD IT BE?'

The answer...besides, 'Oh, wow'?

This is pretty bad.

And she's made some pretty excruciating boneheaded mistakes attempting to appeal (as bad as this is, I'd call it pandering) to the veterans, particularly for a military pilot.

The state is in such sad shape, and even with a lead in current polling, Sherrill is so vulnerable that national Democrats are panicking and fixin' to plow mega-bucks into advertising to try to hold the governor's seat against the Trump-endorsed Republican, Jack Ciattarelli.

Last election, Chris Christie torpedoed the Republican Governors Association giving Ciattarelli any money, and he still came within a hair's breadth of pulling it off without their help - in a deep blue state, no less.

...The Republican Governors Association has yet to decide whether to help Ciattarelli.  In 2021, the RGA reserved approximately $10 million in airtime for Ciattarelli but ultimately failed to provide the funds.  Ciattarelli lost that race by three percentage points.  Former Gov. Chris Christie, a former RGA chairman, had told the organization that Ciattarelli could not win.

This time around, Trump only lost the state by six points, and people are hatin' life under Murphy.

...President Trump looms large over the race. According to the poll, 52 percent of voters say he is a “major factor” in their vote for governor. Mr. Trump was mentioned in 70 percent of all broadcast ads during the primary, according to AdImpact.

Mr. Trump only lost the Garden State by 6 points in 2024 after losing by 16 points in 2020. Republicans are hopeful their momentum will continue and they can pick up a governor’s seat.

The narrow vote margin in the last presidential election has some analysts now referring to New Jersey as a possible swing state after decades as a solidly blue state.

The number of Republicans registered to vote in the Garden State has surged in the past year and the voter edge for Democrats has dropped below 1 million, according to politics site New Jersey Globe.

Sherrill would be more of the intolerable same, and there are plenty of people making sure they remind their fellow New Jerseyans every chance they get.

She's also said she'd endorse Mamdani and while disagreeing with him on a lot of things, she has many of the same beliefs.

Oh. Awesome.
