On Thursday, the Democratic nominee spoke about faith to the National Baptist Convention here. “Today, for a few minutes, I want to leave aside the politics and do something that doesn’t always come naturally to a Midwestern Methodist,” Mrs. Clinton said. “That is to talk about my own faith, how it led me to a life of service, and how it will guide me as president.”
Meanwhile, the popular blog Humans of New York posted two highly personal ruminations from Mrs. Clinton. In one, she talks about the challenges of running for office as a woman; in another, about being heckled by men while she was taking the law-school entrance exam. She says the need to stay focused can sometimes make her come off as “cold and unemotional.”
“You need to protect yourself, you need to keep steady, but at the same time you don’t want to seem ‘walled off.’ And sometimes I think I come across more in the ‘walled off’ arena,” she said. “And if I create that perception, then I take responsibility.”
