New York town debates whether to keep NBC's Brian Williams on welcome sign

Williams graces the sign, erected in 2003, with television producer Hal Roach, football star Ernie Davis, author Mark Twain, astronaut Eileen Collins, abolitionist John Jones and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.

Williams was not born in Elmira, but he lived there as a boy before his family moved to New Jersey. He lived on West Church Street and attended Hendy Avenue Elementary School.

Skidmore said she’s received more than a dozen calls wanting Williams off the sign after he was suspended in February for six months for saying he was in a helicopter that was shot down over Iraq in 2003, but in fact was not true.
