Construction worker Luo Yanquan said his wife Xiao Aiying was taken kicking and screaming from their southern China home by more than a dozen people on October 10 because the baby would have violated the country’s one-child limit.

She was detained in a clinic for three days by family planning officials, he said.

After she was beaten and did not miscarry the child, she was taken to a hospital and injected with a drug that killed her baby.
