Authorities in Yemen say the country’s army and security forces have surrounded Anwar al-Awlaki and a group of suspected al Qaeda leaders with whom he is believed to be hiding.
Officials there say they believe al-Awlaki and the others are near a village in South Yemen where thousands of civilians have fled their homes in the wake of heavy fighting in the last few days between government forces and the suspected terror group.
US officials in Washington said Tuesday morning they could not confirm the claims coming out of Yemen.
