Monday's Final Word

Tabbies, tabbies – so good to me ...

Ed: I recall in the first term that media outlets used to interview psychologists to argue that Trump was either insane or suffering from dementia. We then got a four-year lacuna in coverage of presidential cognition. It's not surprising to see the Protection Racket Media back at it now, but it's laughably hypocritical.

TIME Magazine: Marjorie Taylor Greene is leaving Congress, but that may not be the end of her political ambitions. The Georgia lawmaker has privately told allies that she has considered running for president in 2028, according to two people who have spoken with her directly about the prospect and three others familiar with her thinking.

The possibility comes amid the dramatic rupture in Greene’s relationship with President Donald Trump, which contributed to her decision to announce on Friday that she would resign from the House of Representatives in January.

Ed: This is an absurd idea, on a few levels. First off, Greene has been burning her bridges with the faction of the party that she'd need to make this work at all. More importantly, if Greene wanted to run for president, she would have stayed in Congress. That was her claim to electoral relevance. Thus, this comes as no surprise ...

===

I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it. If you fell for those headlines, you’re still being lulled everyday into psychosis by the Political Industrial Complex that always has an agenda when it does something like this. Running for President requires traveling all over the country, begging for donations all day everyday to raise hundreds of millions of dollars, arguing political talking points everyday to the point of exhaustion, destroying your health and having no personal life in order to attempt to get enough votes to become President all to go to work into a system that refuses to fix any of America’s problems. The fact that I’d have to go through all that but would be totally blocked from truly fixing anything is exactly why I would never do it.

Ed: It's worth noting that Greene just resigned from the one federal institution that actually has the power to "fix" these problems. That does require arguing for your preferred policies and outcomes, so complaining about that aspect of what Greene says she wants is somewhat mystifying. It sounds as though Greene would only be satisfied with dictatorial power. If so, let's all breathe easier knowing that Greene does not have presidential aspirations.

Andrew Malcolm at RedState: These reports can find and deliver gloomy news on the economy because, apparently, only Republicans are responsible for a soft economy, which everyone needs to understand is now good for Democrats.

They also note that President Trump’s approval ratings are underwater, as they always are and were last year when Trump captured every single swing state.

The media see ominous signs of discord among Republicans, which presumably would be good for Democrats, right? And they ignore the same predictable discord among Democrats because that wouldn’t fit the current fashionable narrative of Hope.

By the way, does anyone recall a time when discord did not dominate Swamp news?

Ed: This is worth reading in full, because the Protection Racket Media has plenty of incentive to sell the Coming Republican Civil War narrative. The reality is, as we see next, something different.

===

Ed: The decline among independents is an issue for Trump. However, Republican voters are getting exactly what they wanted for their votes. Stick around for a discussion of what actually drove MTG out of the 2026 midterms.

River Page at The Free PressThis is indeed important, because as we found out over the weekend, it’s not just Simpsons stan accounts that are based abroad. It’s also a lot of American-looking right-wing meme accounts—many based in poor countries like India and Pakistan, as many have long speculated. There’s an America First account that’s based in Bangladesh. There’s an Ivanka Trump stan account with a million followers that’s based in Nigeria.

Even accounts that might have tried to fool the new feature by using virtual private networks (VPNs)s—which allow you to make it look like you’re using the internet from another country—have been flagged. Take the account @RedPillMediaX, which has more than 100K followers and has tweeted things like “I am an American. Yes, I like Hitler.” If you click on the new “about this account” page, it does say that the account is based in the United States, but there’s also a notification badge that warns: “Country or region might not be accurate.”

“One of our partners has indicated that this account may be connecting via a proxy—such as a VPN,” reads the message.

And if you dig a little deeper into @RedPillMediaX’s timeline, you’ll find a series of old tweets praising Pakistan and denigrating India, which suggest an intimate knowledge of—and strong feelings about—that region’s politics. Does that mean this Hitlerian account is actually run by someone from Pakistan? Clearly X’s new feature isn’t perfect, because we still don’t know for sure. But it’s starting to look like foreign interference in American politics is indeed as vast as the Russiagate obsessives once speculated—except maybe the Kremlin isn’t actually to blame.

Ed: I rather doubt that this actually moves the needle in electoral politics. It certainly moves the needle in media narratives, however. If the Groypers turn out to be mainly a foreign-intel op – and that's how it's starting to look – then the media may be complicit in amplifying it. Which also looks a lot like the Russiagate hoax.

Glenn Reynolds at the NY Post: We’ve heard a lot in recent years about “misinformation” and “disinformation” on the Internet, which officials in both the United States and the increasingly totalitarian European Union have used as an excuse to censor ideas they don’t like.

Inevitably, the ideas they dislike are those coming from their political opponents.

But Musk on Friday didn’t censor people for lying. He revealed them as liars.

Rather than repression, he chose illumination.

Ed: Now ask yourselves why progressives prefer opacity to transparency, and – to quote Elon quoting even better material -- "the truth will set you free." Literally, as Glenn concludes.

Ed: James Carville's axiom remains unchallenged in elections – "It's the economy, stupid." If Republicans want to win in the midterms, they had better start offering real progress on housing. The best way to do that would be to put a lot of pressure on state and local governments that restrict supply through bad zoning, high taxes. and other land-use restrictions. Supply is the real problem here.

Off the Press: The United States on Monday formally designated Venezuela’s Cartel de los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization, layering additional terrorism-related sanctions on the group it has said includes President Nicolas Maduro and other high-ranking officials.

Venezuela’s government rejected what it called a “ridiculous” U.S. plan to designate the “non-existent” group. ...

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the designation would bring “a whole bunch of new options to the United States,” in excerpts released on Thursday from an interview with One America News.

Ed: Many seem to think that the Democrats' threats toward the military over "illegal orders" has to do with immigration enforcement. I wonder if it's not more aimed at protecting Maduro.

===

Ed: I think Democrats just screwed themselves yet again. This has been another embarrassing chapter of TDS demagoguery.

===

John Hinderaker at Power Line: In their video, the six Democrats try to dodge responsibility by saying that service members should disobey “illegal orders.” But they plainly imply, and arguably assert outright, that the Trump administration is routinely issuing illegal orders that should be disobeyed, and is a threat to the Constitution. But as the Pentagon’s statement points out:

All servicemembers are reminded that they have a legal obligation under the UCMJ to obey lawful orders and that orders are presumed to be lawful. A servicemember’s personal philosophy does not justify or excuse the disobedience of an otherwise lawful order.

There are legal disputes over everything under the Sun. But has the Trump administration been issuing plainly illegal orders to military personnel? No. In fact, Senator Elissa Slotkin, one of those who appeared in the video inciting service members to rebellion, has specifically admitted that she is not aware of any illegal orders[.]

Ed: I'm not a huge fan of criminalizing stupid speech. Instead, I think the White House and Republicans in Congress should make a series of videos reminding voters that bribing Democrat Senators and Representatives can put them at risk of federal prosecution, and that those officeholders could get charged as well. When Democrats scream about it, just remind them that all you're doing is pointing out legitimate statutes.

Ed: This is long overdue. Let's trace that money back to its origins, though, and do something about it ... even when the money trail leads to Doha, Tehran, and perhaps even Ankara and Riyadh.

"My therapist always asks me to transcribe my dreams and the recurring dream I've had is standing up in a Cafeteria full of women and saying 'I don't want children. I want power!'"

Ed: Eight. Days. To. Go.

Editor's note: If we thought our job in pushing back against the Academia/media/Democrat censorship complex was over with the election, think again. This is going to be a long fight.
