Ed: That's easy to say, but if Trump wants an alliance that will take on China, we'll have to toss in some sweeteners too.

"He’s got more to lose than he has to gain,” says Robert Bothwell, a University of Toronto professor of Canadian history and international relations, who warned that Carney risks becoming the next foreign leader used as a political prop. “The Zelensky precedent is not encouraging.”

Carney insists he is going to Washington to “get the best deal for Canada” and to address what he calls “immediate trade pressures.” But even before the first handshake, Trump sounded bemused. “I’m not sure what he wants to see me about,” the President told reporters on Monday. “I guess he wants to make a deal. Everybody does.”

The optics alone carry peril for Carney, who won office on a promise to stand up to Trump.

Ed: The 'Zelensky precedent' was almost entirely Zelensky's fault. Trump has always been respectful and welcoming in public visits, and was with Zelensky until he decided to relitigate the minerals deal in front of the press, and didn't take the hints obviously offered to wait for the private meeting. But in a sense, the "Zelensky precedent' is pretty useful in that it makes clear that Trump and Vance aren't going to treat grandstanding with much patience or grace.

Ed: Friendship might be a concession in both directions over the last few months. We will be entering into some tough negotiations, and that might be a good target throughout them.

Hollywood has been pleading with politicians for years to help stem the exodus of film and TV production to other countries. This weekend actor Jon Voight met with President Trump to make the case.

The president’s call for 100% tariffs on imported movies—which he issued in a social-media post Sunday—isn’t what Hollywood had in mind.

Ed: Of course it isn't, although the unions in Hollywood probably love it. The studios want more rent-seeking tax behavior, not restrictions on their ability to operate outside the US. I'm not sure how these tariffs would work in practice, but it might take the form of 100% duties on any foreign tax credits studios get for filming abroad.

Ed: Maybe? China has stopped issuing economic data, even that which is mainly propaganda and exaggeration. China sells more than half of its exports to the US.

The head of the Houthi Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, declared that the rebel group would continue its attacks on Israel even after reaching a ceasefire agreement with the US to end its attacks on international shipping.

The Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah news station reported that al-Mashat warned Israelis to “remain in shelters because their government will not be able to protect them."

Ed: If they think that won't draw an American response, they're fooling themselves ... and so are the Iranians.

  • 6 heads of the drug ring here illegally.
  • 55,000 hours of law enforcement investigation.
  • 75,000 American fentanyl deaths/yr.
  • #1 Cause of death for 18-34 year olds in the US is fetanyl.

Ed: Good work by the DoJ, DEA, and all of their law enforcement partners.

This follows a series of layoffs within the industry of some of the most vile feminist journalists ever to pretend to play games.  Many have taken to social media to e-beg for cash from followers, beg for work from other outlets, and complain about how they will now have to get real jobs in retail and service.  It's hard to imagine a more fitting end for a group that tried to ruin the lives of so many for the sake of political supremacy.

It should be noted that the surge in media layoffs in recent months follows the shutdown of funds flowing from government agencies like USAID.  It's hard to say if there's a connection, but if DOGE delivered the finishing death blow it's only because these organizations already lost millions of readers through through their own arrogance.

And yet, to this day most of the activists involved in the bloodletting still refuse to acknowledge the real reasons why they are so despised.  They blame the economic climate, though, there are numerous gaming advocates on YouTube and elsewhere that are wildly successful.  The market is there, it just doesn't want Polygon and its peers.

Ed: The Gamergaters turned out to be right. Whether or not USAID funds drove the aggressively woke coverage of gaming is worth watching, but the ideology itself is dying from terminal arrogance. The game manufacturers who bent the knee to it will likely die with them.

The Milken Institute, a center-left nonprofit organization, announced on Tuesday that it would be launching a new “Women’s Health Network.” Jill Biden will serve as the chair of the initiative.

Under its new “Women’s Health Network,” Biden and the Milken institute will aim to promote research and development of services for women “by elevating existing and new efforts across the women’s health ecosystem,” the press release reads. ...

The Milken Institute was founded by Michael Milken in the 1990s. Milken was pardoned for securities fraud in 2020 by President Donald Trump. After pleading guilty to several counts of securities violations, Milken was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1990 and served 22 months.

Ed: This is a very curious choice for a family that's perceived to be the epitome of The Swamp. Why partner with a convicted fraudster, especially when the Bidens likely have plenty of choices for partners? Or do they?
