First we find out that a gender-confused and disgruntled Army private got access to this nation’s most sensitive diplomatic and military communications. Then a contractor doing work for the NSA managed to steal highly compartmentalized classified material from the National Security Agency while changing jobs, even though his job was supposedly limited to technological support. Now, we find out that that the Department of Homeland Security — which produced an execrable report on the dangers of extreme right-wing terrorism four years ago — employs a manager running a website urging African-Americans to prepare for a race war against whites.
Does anyone do background checks any more?
A Department of Homeland Security manager in charge of buying weapons and ammunition for the government is, on the side, running an inflammatory website that throws around gay slurs and advocates the mass murder of “whites” and the “ethnic cleansing” of “Uncle Tom race traitors,” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center
Ayo Kimathi, who calls himself the “Irritated Genie,” told his supervisors that the website was set up to sell concert and lecture videos.
But the report showed the site’s content strayed far beyond concert promotion, warning about a coming race war. His website, “War on the Horizon,” declares, “in order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count,” the Alabama-based SPLC said in its report.
DHS apparently discovered the nature of the website earlier this summer:
Kimathi’s former supervisor discovered Kimathi’s hateful Internet presence in mid-June. “When I saw the website, I was stunned,” she said. “To see the hate, to know that he is a federal employee, it bothered me”.
The SPLC says his enemies list “rivals that of President Richard Nixon’s in length.” By the way, it also includes his boss:
It includes, among others, Rev. Al Sharpton, Lil Wayne, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, who he calls “Colon,” and even President Obama, “a treasonous mulatto scum dweller … who will fight against reparations for Black people in amerikkka, but in favor of fag rights for freaks in amerikkka and Afrika.”
Forget internal DHS security, for a moment anyway. Has the Secret Service checked out Kimathi yet?
Actually, let’s get back to internal security. If Kimathi had acted normally outside of his website, this might have been an understandable and unpleasant surprise. That. however, wasn’t the case:
One of Kimathi’s former supervisors at DHS told SPLC’s Hatewatch that, “Everybody is the office is afraid of him,” and that his co-workers are “afraid he will come in with a gun and someday go postal.”
The supervisor, who was not named, continued, “I am astounded he’s employed by the federal government, let alone Homeland Security.”
And yet no one thought to investigate this at the Department of Homeland Security? The same DHS that issued a factless warning in April 2009 about the dangers of right-wing rhetoric?
By the way … guess what Kimathi’s job is at DHS. I’ll give you a hint … tolerance:
Kimathi’s former supervisor said among his duties at DHS and ICE is speaking at various vendor events. He’s one of the agency’s public faces. It is his job to advocate for small business owners “white, black, historically disadvantaged, disabled veteran-owned, everybody,” the supervisor said.
“He fights for the little guy,” the supervisor said. “And he’s very good at it. He has a commanding presence. He’s very suave. It’s almost as if he has a split personality.”
He wouldn’t be the first demagogue to fill that description, certainly, but he sounds a little more dangerous than the rest. That’s especially true with his managerial position at the DHS, which presumably exists to protect against Charles Manson-like dystopias such as Kimathi’s.
Some will make this story about race, and we’ve certainly seen our share of that kind of exploitation this year already. This isn’t about race, though — it’s about bureaucratic incompetence, along with a big dollop of hypocrisy from DHS. And with Bradley Manning, Edward Snowden, and now the Irritated Genie, it’s starting to look like a pattern in the areas where we most need executive competence, if not excellence.
Update: I’m not “hesitating to be blunt” about race, as Bluegill suggests in the comments. It’s rather obvious that Kimathi has an issue with race, but that’s not the public policy/performance issue here. Nor is it in any individual act of racism, either. Bringing up isolated incidents of racial animus and stretching that into a narrative about everyone else is what the Left has done for decades. Count me out of that nonsense.
