The Most Important Thing That the Zelenskyy Meeting Showed to Me

It has nothing to do with Zelenskyy. His behavior--and more importantly, the elite's freakout and SIDING with Zelenskyy--laid bare the divide between ordinary Americans (and many frustrated Europeans who are getting a boot stomped on their face by the elites) and the transnational elite.

If you believe that the transnational elite should rule the world and everybody else should meekly follow their diktats, you thought Zelenskyy was a brave truth-teller who was rightfully chastising the Bad Orange President and his Appalachian Yokel the reality of how things are supposed to work.

If you are an ordinary person, you saw an ungrateful, arrogant, whiny child-man who has been gifted unGodly amounts of money and support insulting the President of the United States in the Oval Office in front of the world after the president graciously praised him and promised him support.

"It's not enough! I deserve more! You don't understand!" Yes, Zelenskyy tried to school the president and the Vice President, change the deal they had made in private, on our turf and in public. He lectured and shouted at the President of the United States in front of the world, and now says he did nothing wrong.

And nearly every European leader rushed to support Zelenskyy's behavior.

Michael Shellenberger nails it in his rant and the following thread. Europe sees us as the petulant child who deserves a scolding, when in fact they are freeloaders who act like 35-year-old manchilds living in their parents' basements lecturing their parents that they don't understand how important playing video games is.

I have some news for Europe: YOU CANNOT DEFEND YOURSELVES WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES. Every bit--every bit--of their current but declining prosperity stems from the fact that the US has acted as a protector and a referee for, if you include World War II, over 80 years.

Europe is deindustrializing--choosing to become actually poorer and more dependent--and lectures us about how we don't do enough for them. The average EU citizen is now poorer than the average Mississippian, but if you mentioned Mississippi to any of them they would laugh at them as rubes. They laugh at all of us as rubes, and then demand we defend them. Germany cannot put 20 fighter jets in the air. Its tanks are falling apart. No European country could defend its own borders, no less push back Russia.

That is a matter of choice on their part--and, frankly, due to excessive charity on ours. The EU's population is 3x Russia's, and its economic output is 10x Russia's. Yet they need the US to defend them? Why is that?

It is because they see us as THEIR vassals. They are the transnational elite who have a right to rule. And our own elite identifies with them, not us. Go read the elite commentary in the United States and Europe. ALL of it is predicated on the view that ordinary Americans and by extension Trump are rubes who should listen to the lectures and thank the wise men for informing us of our responsibilities.

Like Shellenberger, I like Europe in the abstract. There is much to admire, although like the successive mayors of Portland the people running the place are doing everything they can to destroy what is good. Our cultural roots are there, and worth preserving. It is sad to see it decline.

The problem is not Europeans per se. It is the transnational elite. If you look at the UK, France, Germany, or Italy, you will see citizens desperately trying to take back control of their countries. But as Thierry Breton, the infamous censor, pointed out about the German elections, the EU elite can cancel national elections if they do not like the results. They did in Romania, and they could do it in Germany.

Since Zelenskyy's blowup with Trump I have been bombarded with commentary, including from friends, appalled that Trump "treated Zelenskyy like a child." Actually, Trump was totally gracious and too tolerant until Zelenskyy started shouting at the Vice President. Trump listened patiently to the supplicant lecture us about the reality of the world--never once acknowledging that the reality was that he was toast without Trump--and it finally became too much.

And Zelenskyy YELLED AT THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES in the Oval Office, and all our "allies" whom we have defended for 80 years, expending uncounted lives and treasure, sided with Zelenskyy and even called us an adversary.

Well, if you think so, then go ahead--have your war with Russia. See how that goes. We cannot spend every dime and life we have keeping Europe from committing suicide, as it has been for two decades.

Sorry not sorry. It's time for our NATO allies to grow up. Quit messing with our internal politics. Quit stealing our free speech. Quit lecturing us. If you know how it is really supposed to be done, show us, not tell us.

Go read the columns in The Atlantic and you will see that Bad Orange Man was rude and is Putin's puppet. Europeans know how the war is supposed to be ended, only it must be some secret plan with magic because it sure hasn't worked yet, and Ukraine is running out of people.

It's the elites vs the rest of us. If we are not with them, we love Putin, are Nazis, rubes, white supremacists, etc.

And then they say: hand over your wallet, rube. Wear a mask. Don't say that. Take the jab. Have this man ogle your daughters in locker rooms. Let the Pakistanis rape your children and thank them for it. Post a meme, get 18 months in jail. Rape a 10-year-old--walk free.

If that is what they want, I'm out. Our only choice is to defund the Establishment, raze their buildings, and salt the earth. They are irredeemable.
