The COVID narrative is breaking down. While the CDC and most state governments are unsuccessfully pushing us all to get yet another COVID booster shot, the CEO of Moderna says the quiet part out loud: relatively few people would benefit from getting the booster because, like the flu, COVID is only dangerous to people who are aged or have significant co-morbidities.

Not everyone needs to get an annual Covid booster, according to the head of pharma giant Moderna who also likened the virus to seasonal flu.

Stéphane Bancel said his company’s shots should mainly be targeted at over-50s and people with underlying health conditions.

His comments seem to be at odds with the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) which is urging everyone over the age of five to get boosted.

Covid is now predominantly only killing the most vulnerable because the US has built up strong immunity through high infection rates and repeated vaccine rollouts.

There are currently around 300 deaths from the virus across the country every day, compared to more than 1,000 this time last year.

Mr Bancel told a finance conference on Monday: ‘I think it’s going to be like the flu. If you’re a 25-year-old, do you need an annual booster every year if you’re healthy?

‘You might want to… but I think it’s going to be similar to flu where it’s going to be people at high-risk, people above 50 years of age, people with comorbidities, people with cancer and other conditions, people with transplants.’

Obviously Moderna has a financial stake in people getting boosters, since they make a boatload of money off of people getting shots. So we should sit up and take notice when the CEO of the company appears to discourage everybody from rushing out to get yet another vaccination.

Fauci and company are still pushing hard, and in fact they just approved the COVID booster for children as young as 5, and Pfizer has teamed with Marvel to encourage children to get boosted. That’s a very different message than what Moderna is sending out.

Roughly 14.8million Americans have now received the updated bivalent booster, out of 215million eligible people.

Mr Bancel defended the sluggish Covid booster uptake, pointing out that it is stronger than seasonal flu uptake.

He noted that it is the first time people are getting the booster in more of an endemic than pandemic setting, meaning people are less anxious to get a new vaccine.

Given how new the technology behind the COVID vaccines are and the association between vaccination and heart issues in younger men, you can bet that a lot of COVID vaccine skeptics are going to be even more hesitant than before to get the shot.

I have been vaccinated and boosted, but have decided to avoid getting any more of the shots. I feel burned by the medical establishment, as do a fair number of doctors I know. They are neither recommending nor discouraging patients to get vaccinated because, well, who knows? Certainly you can’t trust the public health establishment on the issue.

The Administration has unsurprisingly been sending mixed messages about COVID–the president having declared the pandemic over, but the White House walked that back. Fauci is still sounding the alarm, and in a bold move the president re-upped the COVID “emergency.”

It’s all about politics, not science.
