How dumb was this remark?

”South Carolina people know true conservatism when they see it.You don’t like people outside the state telling you how you ought to raise your kids, you don’t like people from outside the state telling you what to do with the flag,” Huckabee said during a rally at a Myrtle beach airport hangar. “In fact, if somebody came down to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell’ em where to put the pole.”

Classy. It was about as dumb a remark as Huckabee could have made. No one was talking about the perennial Confederate flag issue in South Carolina; now everyone is. The Democrats will use it once again to tar Republicans as racists. It might even slow down the uncivil war in the Democrat race. And all even though the state’s legislature, now dominated by Republicans, voted overwhelmingly years ago to undo the state legislature’s 1962 vote, during a time when it was dominated by Democrats and the governor was a Democrat, to put the flag on top of the state’s capitol in the first place. It now flies only on a monument to Confederate war dead on the capitol grounds.

Thanks, Huck. At least he put himself on the wrong side of the issue. That won’t help him when he has to campaign outside the south, or even outside South Carolina for that matter. Now if only he would kindly shut the Huck up.
