Breaking news: Women are real

With all of the SJW unrest on college campuses these days it’s probably tempting to throw up your hands and give up on our higher education system entirely. Along with the many problems we’re seeing with both students and faculty in terms of free speech, kangaroo trials for accused sexual predators and the erasure of the nation’s history is the disturbing trend of people who are supposedly dedicated to science and facts buying into the idea that individuals can choose their own gender. It’s honestly enough to make you cringe.

But before you give up entirely, there is at least one bright spot on the horizon which might offer a bit of hope. Everett Piper is the President of Oklahoma Wesleyan University and the author of a new book, Not A Day Care: The Devastating Consequences of Abandoning Truth. Piper was recently the subject of criticism from some left-wing media group over his “offensive remarks” made on the Tony Perkins show. Piper’s sin was to call out these gender bending trends and declare that campus culture is “degrading and insulting a female by saying she’s not a biological fact, but [that] she’s nothing but a fantasy and a fabrication.”

In response to his critics, Piper has published an editorial at the Washington Times defending his statements and declaring that his university is not going to ignore science in the name of the latest liberal cause. Here’s a short excerpt.

At this university, we don’t offer degrees in feelings. You don’t major in opinions here. We actually envisage that after four years of study in our halls and in our classrooms that you will learn something. We expect and hope that your diploma from OKWU will testify to the fact that you actually know a little bit more about what is true, what is right and what is real.

Yes, the scholars at this university have concluded that a female is an objective reality and not merely a social construct. Crazy as it sounds, we have actually concluded that women are not make-believe; that they aren’t leprechauns or unicorns but rather that they objectively and verifiable exist. Call us stupid, but we hold that there is very little more empirically obvious in the history of all human experience than one’s sex. Standing on this millennia-old foundation of tradition, reason, experience and revelation, we refuse to participate in the misogynistic insult of women by ignoring such self-evident truths.

What a refreshing outlook. What’s truly sad here is that fact that many of us will probably find it shocking to hear common sense from a university president in 2017.

Piper goes on to declare that not only are women real, living, breathing creatures, but that on his campus they will continue to have their own sports teams, dormitories, showers, locker rooms and bathrooms. And those facilities will not be open to any males who wish to demand access to them based on their personal beliefs about their gender.

I’m not optimistic that Piper’s brave stance will be quickly picked up by his other colleagues in higher education around the nation, but you never know. Sometimes it really does take one person to stand up and declare that the emperor has no clothes before everyone else will join in. What the rest of the country needs to be asking all of these other schools who are metaphorically taking the brown acid and buying into such madness is how they can continue to fund and operate science programs on their campuses when they endorse a concept that flies in the face of thousands of years of medical knowledge without so much as a shred of verifiable evidence to support the claim.

If you happen to be the parent of a high school student who is preparing to begin the college application process and find yourself dismayed by the madness enfulfing schools such as Berkeley, the University of Wisconsin and others, you might want to check out Piper’s school. The tuition is actually quite reasonable at around $23K when you compare it to most of the Ivy League institutions.
