NC news anchor: Will President Obama help or hurt your campaign? Sen. Hagan: Well, you see, it's like this...

It’s yet another in the string of semi- and/or super-vulnerable Democrats shying away from both explicit mentions of Obama and their implicit relationships to ObamaCare in their post-SOTU responses: Sen. Udall from Colorado was evasive; Sen. Begich from Alaska was straight-up disparaging; and Sen. Hagan in North Carolina was apparently feeling pretty shifty about it, according to a local news report from Friday:

Hagan has been making a point of avoiding the president for awhile now (an abstention on which he completely called her out in front of a crowd of North Carolinians earlier this month; does he not conceive that his “help” could ever be anything less than a welcome boon, or does he just not care?), but it hasn’t been enough to stop her poll numbers from continuing to tumble. The latest poll of her race came from Rasmussen last week, and her electoral outlook does not seem to be improving:

Incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan trails her two leading Republican challengers in Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the 2014 U.S. Senate race in North Carolina.

A new statewide survey of Likely North Carolina Voters shows Thom Tillis, the Republican speaker of the state House of Representatives, leading Hagan by seven points – 47% to 40%. …

Tea Party activist Dr. Greg Brannon leads Hagan by four – 43% to 39%. …

Just 38% of North Carolina voters view the health care law favorably, while 56% hold an unfavorable opinion of it.
