Bad news: Clinton time-travels back 2 years to step on Obama's message

What’s going to be the excuse this time from Bill Clinton’s team, offered anonymously under pressure from Team Obama? The last time that Clinton undermined a major campaign strategy by referring to Mitt Romney’s “sterling business career” at Bain Capital and Clinton’s preference for extending the Bush-era tax rates temporarily to prevent further damage to the economy, Clinton’s own team pointed at his age — a venerable 65, by the way — and insinuated that the old man’s elevator wasn’t making all the stops. In this clip from two years ago unearthed by Media Research Center and reported by USA Today this morning, Clinton pre-emptively stepped on Barack Obama’s new message of staying the course — and in Ohio, no less, in the same exact spot where Obama will try out his new “blame Bush” strategy.

Maybe it was just youthful exuberance, or something:

President Obama’s campaign speech on the economy today will be delivered in the same spot where Bill Clinton delivered a 2010 campaign speech Obama might just as soon forget.

In September 2010, Clinton told his Cuyahoga Community College audience in Cleveland that Democrats deserved two more years to fix the nation’s economy.

“The Democrats are saying something like this: ‘We found a big hole that we did not dig. We didn’t get it filled in 21 months, but at least we quit digging,'” Clinton said at the time. “‘Give us two more years. If it doesn’t work, vote us out.'”

Republicans claim two more years didn’t help. As evidence, they cite an unemployment rate still hovering above 8%, slow job growth and an exodus of people leaving the workforce.

Well, we’ve given Obama two more years.  It’s not working.  For the third time in a month, I’m in full agreement with Bill Clinton … and in awe of his time-travel abilities.
