It was a mess in the little Balkan country of Romania last year as the populist movement that was sweeping through Europe brought broad brushstrokes to their elections as well.
A fellow named Georgescu, who was described as 'far right-wing' or 'ultra-nationalist' (depending on who needed to be scared out of voting for him the most), came charging up from behind and wound up ahead in the first round of voting.

...The left-wing Prime Minister Ciolacu was ahead by 6-7 percentage points in almost all polls but might not make it into the second round. He’s trailing the liberal Lasconi with 15 votes as 99.91% of the votes have been counted.
National-conservative Simion was around 18-19% in opinion polls but got around 14% in the end. Chances are high that the right can actually win the second round to everybody’s surprise.
Major changes on the Romanian political scene taking place right now
Gasps of horror were heard from the Romanian borders clear through Brussels and reverberated around Europe.
Obviously, that sort of populist result couldn't be allowed to remain standing.
So, amid fevered accusations of 'RUSSIA! RUSSIA! RUSSIA!,' the Romanian Constitutional Court overturned the first round of elections due to 'foreign interference.' The stunning decision left an unpopular sitting president in place until things simmered down and a second round of elections could be scheduled.
YAY! SAVING DEMOCRACY BY CANCELING DEMOCRACY!
A victory for Democracy in Romania.

Romania's outgoing lame-duck president Klaus Iohannis has resigned to preempt an impeachment bid by conservative parties. His term ended in December, and he is deeply unpopular.

A funny thing happened on the way to the Romanian voting booths - the USAID scandal broke.
Just like 2020 here, it wasn't the Russians interfering.
The USAid programs were weaponized against people and politicians who weren’t woke.

Half a billion dollars from USAID went to an NGO who interfered in Romanian elections. So much money went to cancel Georgescu! True democracy! pic.twitter.com/d6XMsmeLxH
Today, in a surprise move, the Romanian president resigned right before the rescheduled elections in order to save his own bacon from impeachment.
Romania‘s outgoing centrist president, Klaus Iohannis, resigned on Monday as opposition hard-right parliamentary parties planned to have him impeached.
The European Union and NATO member state, which borders Ukraine, was plunged into institutional chaos last year when little-known far-right NATO critic Calin Georgescu won the first round of a presidential election.
...But in January, three hard-right opposition parties, which control around 35 per cent of parliament seats, filed a motion to impeach Iohannis.
With the motion up for a vote, and Iohannis deeply unpopular, analysts have said some lawmakers from mainstream pro-European parties could give the hard-right’s impeachment effort the required majority.
The damage done by the exposure of USAID's extensive, expensive meddling could be far-reaching as other countries in Eastern Europe that have governments that were unpopular with the Americans are left to wonder how much of their unpopularity in their own country was bought and paid for with American dollars. And how much of it was in concert with their like-minded globalist bug-buddies in Brussels.
...‘Richard Grenell’s allegations that USAID is being used as an agency to promote the radical left’s agenda are already sending shock waves. And it will have consequences. It happened in Romania, which was specifically mentioned,’ Simion said.
Simion also pointed out the double standards of what happened in the Romanian presidential elections, where it was the government and President Iohannis who blamed Georgescu of foreign interference, even though they have not yet shown any proof of it. There indeed has been interference, but not by those they think: rather, by the Democrats in the United States.
‘Socialists and liberals are afraid of losing power, and for some time now they have been blaming political opponents for influencing electoral processes or government agendas through external forces. This is indeed what has happened: but it is not the conservatives who have to be blamed; it is the leftists themselves who claim to be acting in the name of a “greater good”. This is false. And the revelations that have emerged and will continue to emerge will prove us right.’
We should also remember that it is not a novelty that globalists want to change the elections or help their supporters. Former EU commissioner Thierry Breton already stated a month ago that the EU had mechanisms to prevent a possible AfD victory in Germany. In fact, he himself stated that they were responsible for what had happened in Romania: ‘We did it in Romania and obviously we will do it in Germany if necessary.’
What these unelected bureaucrats were doing 'if' THEY determined whatever action they decided to take was justifiably 'necessary' should infuriate every American.
Oh, I can hardly wait to see what else we find out was 'necessary.'
