Some NJ Congressional Reps Are Fixin' to Go Cajun on Some Drones

What do I mean by that?

The phrase is:

CHOOT 'EM!!

I heard part of Rep Smith's interview with Harris Faulkner yesterday, and that man was hot under the collar about the drone problem in the night skies of the Garden State.

He was expounding on some of the drone sighting reports he'd related earlier that morning in Congress. Some pretty amazing ones he'd gotten from both the Coast Guard and police officers on the Jersey Shore.

The man's talking about an awful lot of drones.

And Rep Smith was asking during a Homeland Security hearing why in the Sam Hell they couldn't shoot at least one of the suckers down.

Come on, dudes - just one.

Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican, called on the DoD to shoot down one of the unidentified flying objects that have been buzzing around the state for weeks -- just to find out where it came from -- during a Homeland Security hearing on the topic on Tuesday. He says they don't even need to tell the public what they are, he just wants them to investigate.

"Why can’t DoD share this with Homeland Security, with the FBI, and others so that we can go out and find out who they are?"

He discusses meeting last night with a local sheriff and a Coast Guard officer who reported seeing "dozens" of these unidentified aircraft over the past few days and asked Robert Wheeler, an assistant FBI director, to lobby the Defense Secretary to do something about it.

"I know you have the capability to identify and bring down drones. Why can’t you deploy them, at least to the ocean, bring one of these down, and find out who’s doing it? They have the capability," he said. "They said, 'We don’t have the authority, only within the parameters of our base.' There’s a national interest here. I wrote to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin asking that the capability be brought out. I’m not saying you’ve got to share it with the sheriffs, but it’d be nice. Just do it yourself in the interests of the American public."

The congressman already sounds really frustrated with the federal government's version of "I don't know, go ask your mother" runaround he's getting from the DoD, the FBI, and DHS.

For their part, the FBI has already admitted they're clueless...and powerless.

WE JUST DON'T KNOW...BUT WE'RE NOT GONNA DO ANYTHING MORE THAN BE CONCERNED, EITHER

If it had something to do with Donald Trump, they'd be all over it in a flash.

Another Garden State representative, Jeff Van Drew, has heard that they're Iranian drones from a 'mothership' offshore.

Since no one can be bothered to choot one down, who am I to poo-poo his sources.

Why couldn't it be?

The congressman is also advocating to unleash some anti-drone violence as the next step, sooner rather than later.

...“I’m also on the Transportation Committee, on the Aviation Subcommittee and I have gotten to know people and from very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources, I’m going to tell you the real deal: Iran launched a mothership, probably about a month ago’ that contains these drones. That mothership is off – I’m gonna tell you the deal – it is off the East Coast of the United States of America,” Van Drew said. “They’ve launched drones, everything that we can see or hear and again these are from high sources. I don’t say this lightly. We know there was a probability it could have been our own government. We know it is not our own government, because they would have let us know. It could have been some really glorified hobbyists… doing something unbelievable, they don’t have the technology, but let’s pretend that’s possible. The third possibility was somebody, adversarial country doing this. Know that Iran made a deal with China to purchase drones, motherships and technology in order to go forward.”

“The sources I have are good. They can’t reveal who they are, because they are speaking to me in confidentiality,” Van Drew continued. “These drones should be shot down whether it was some crazy hobbyist that we can’t imagine or whether it is Iran and I think it very possibly could be. They should be shot down. We are not getting the full deal and the military is on alert with this.”

Disgusted, yet another NJ rep just walked out of the DHS meeting.

Senators are starting to agitate for answers, too.

This is kind of a wild time lapse from the other night...

...but places like Picatinny Arsenal have had their own incursions, and local law enforcement has sent up their own drones hoping to snag an intruder...or at least a close-up.

But no joy.

The Defense Department says, nah - not Iranian. Although they then admit they don't have a clue what or where the drones come from, although - never fear - they are 'monitoring' the situation.

And 'at no point were our installations threatened when this activity was occurring.'

Like...how would she know?

We don't know what they are, can't be bothered to find out, but everything's under control.

You know damn well this is gonna come down to a twelve gauge pump.
