Ooo, this is getting ticklishly interesting!

Tentatively and originally scheduled for Wednesday, scheduled Republican nominee for Speaker of the House Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio is said to be pushing for an earlier Tuesday vote instead.

He had a pretty good morning after first running into some hardcore GOP opposition who have since come around to his side.

One of those was Mike Rogers and he explained his change of heart early this morning.

Rogers had been a real stick-in-the-mud, vowing he wasn’t going to support Jordan come what may. But it seems they had several good, long talks over the weekend which brought Rogers around. Isn’t that what a speaker should be able to do – work with people?

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, scored a major victory in his quest for the speaker’s gavel on Monday.

In a Monday tweet, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Ala., announced he would be supporting Jordan’s speakership bid.

Rogers was a major opponent of Jordan’s push for speaker, so his flip is a big win for the Republican speaker nominee.

…That changed Monday when Rogers said he and Jordan spoke twice over the weekend with regard to the vote as well as House GOP priorities.

“We agreed on the need for Congress to pass a strong NDAA, appropriations to fund our government’s vital functions, and other important legislation like the Farm Bill,” Rogers continued.

I also like what Rogers said in his thread about “team playing.” Man, get on board that train, you all.

That’s the point. Now is not the time to be flailing around leaderless and rudderless. We’ve already got that in the White House.

Another big get this morning was holdout Ann Wagner of Missouri.

Word is that Rogers’ flip may well have the rest of the moderates following suit and the 55 votes against Jordan from the secret nominating ballot could be history if the momentum holds. That’s believed to be part of the strategy behind Jordan pushing for a Speaker vote tomorrow instead of Wednesday as previously planned.

He wants people on record. Apparently GOP congressional phones lines in all their offices are burning UP with Americans calling in to say “GET THIS DRAMA OVER WITH, STAT.” The phrase being used across X – “melt the phones” – must be raising hell in perceived holdouts’ offices.

Their staff is going to have a long day.

But the calls are effective, judging by the updates in this thread. There are names coming off the “nay” list. They’ve also identified a couple folks on the “No” list who were actually “YES” from the get-go, so that’s good news.

If he pulls this off, it will be such a slap in the face to the establishment media, who were reveling in the show.

After Representative Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, was chosen this week as the new nominee for House speaker, Tara Setmayer, a former GOP communications director, voiced concern on Saturday about the current state of the Republican Party, describing it as “complete chaos.”

If Jordan does gain the speaker’s gavel, this is also true.

If Jim Jordan becomes speaker, it will be a massive win for the movement but it will be up to Speaker Jordan to prove he is the upgrade we are all hoping for.
