Tapper to Carney: Admin is "aggressively trying to stop aggressive journalism"

First, just watch the video. Pay special attention to the woman in the horn-rimmed glasses behind Tapper’s left shoulder; her expressions are priceless! She must not be such a fan of aggressive journalism herself:

To review: ABC’s Tapper actually hit the White House with all of these lines:

  • “How does that square with the fact that this administration has been so aggressively trying to stop aggressive journalism in the United States by using the Espionage Act to take whistleblowers to court?”
  • “You want aggressive journalism abroad; you just don’t want it in the United States.”
  • “So the truth should come out abroad; it shouldn’t come out here?”

Jake Tapper specifically mentioned the case of the administration suing a CIA officer for allegedly providing information about CIA torture. I can think of a couple other occasions in which the administration treated whistleblowers unjustifiably harshly and/or refused to cooperate with innocently inquiring journalists. Incidentally, the White House website — touted as such a triumph of transparency — doesn’t even have a link to a form to submit media requests. The most transparently transparent administration ever is also the administration that has stonewalled investigations into Fast and Furious, Solyndra and other real scandals. Conveniently for the administration, the MSM has largely ignored these scandals as well. Not Jake Tapper. Good for him for taking Carney to task.
