Video: Failed promises, Iowa edition

As the GOP candidates clawed and picked at one another this morning in advance of tonight’s Iowa caucuses, Barack Obama’s PR team coolly tweeted, “Four years ago, Barack Obama won the Iowa caucus. Where were you? #Obama2012” That tweet followed on the heels of an earlier tweet that touted Barack Obama’s #promiseskept. “Four years ago today,” the blurb read, “candidate Obama told Iowans he’d reform health care and end the Iraq war.”

But as the Republican National Committee reminds us in this video, Barack Obama hasn’t kept all his promises. Domestically, unemployment remains high, and, internationally, anti-U.S. sentiment has actually mounted among some allies. Obama said, if he couldn’t turn the economy around in three years, he’d be looking at a “one-term proposition.” More recently, he’s admitted folks aren’t better off than they were four years ago.

At this point, Obama has little of record to recommend him — but some voters still express the sentiment that they’ll support him just because he seems to have it a little more together than the Republican candidates who are fumbling over each other. But as this video should remind viewers, he doesn’t have it more together. With no primary to fight, he has just managed to avoid intense electoral scrutiny for the time being. Fortunately, the RNC has the luxury to attack Obama while the GOP candidates make their case to Iowa caucus-goers — and, with this video, the RNC finally did. Let’s hope there’s more of this to come from the RNC and the eventual GOP nominee.
