The Long Shove Back Out Of The Institutions

Big Left is to political/public interest non-profits (aka "Non-Governmental Organizations) as Major League Baseball is to Minor League baseball: the latter is an essential part of the former, in each case.  Non-profits, and pseudo-academic groups, as well as their attendant fundraising apparatus, are an essential part of Big Left's machine; in addition to raising and "laundering" money and serving labor on the hoof for Democratic campaigns, they are increasingly serving as government-paid enactors of policy.

Like most purple-to-blue states, Minnesota is crawling with these pseudo-academic, pseudo-governmental groups.

But a Minnesota 2nd Amendment group is hoping to drop the proverbial hammer on one of them.

The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus (full disclosure: I've been a volunteer with the group for well over a decade) is asking the US Departments of Education and Justice to investigate an anti-gun rights front group masquerading ad an academic center at the University of Minnesota:

In a recent social media post, the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus (MCGO) announced that the organization had sent a letter to the DOJ and DOE asking them to investigate the University of Minnesota Law School’s Gun Control Litigation Clinic.

The clinic is ostensibly in business to provide students with experience on cases related to so-called “gun violence,” more appropriately called criminal violence.

“The Gun Violence Prevention Clinic will offer students a unique experiential learning opportunity to work on litigation affecting a significant societal problem,” the organization’s website states. “The Clinic will litigate affirmative cases that will reduce injuries, deaths, and trauma caused by gun violence, challenge overreaching gun laws, and defend gun laws and regulations against legal challenges.”

Sounds like it's on the up and up?  I mean, if you believe the center's website:

The Gun Violence Prevention Clinic will offer students a unique experiential learning opportunity to work on litigation affecting a significant societal problem. The Clinic will litigate affirmative cases that will reduce injuries, deaths, and trauma caused by gun violence, challenge overreaching gun laws, and defend gun laws and regulations against legal challenges. The Clinic will work in partnership with the Minnesota Attorney General's office on both affirmative and defensive cases, as well as develop its own cases.

Clinic case work will be accompanied by a weekly seminar, where students will learn about the development and scope of the Second Amendment, engage in discourse on the intersection of gun policy and fundamental rights, and learn foundational concepts of how to use litigation to advance social justice goals. Students will also engage with guest speakers who are experts in the Second Amendment and gun violence prevention.

Well, not if you've been watching the issue at all. Megan Walsh was a key player with "Everytown", Michael Bloomberg's astroturf anti-gun group.

From the "clinic's" website:

“This publicly supported program, established in 2023, is using state, university and private grant funding to engage in one-sided legal advocacy in support of a broad gun control agenda that undermines the constitutional rights of Minnesota residents,” the letter stated. “Law students in the clinic serve as Special Assistant Attorneys General, directly participating in legal efforts designed not to study or neutrally interpret the law—but to actively shape policy and restrict the exercise of Second Amendment rights.”

Naturally, the students will be working on anti-gun cases; there'll be no supporting law-abiding Americans' civil rights on the taxpayers dime, nosirreebob.

The Caucus is asking the Justice Department to investigate the use of tax dollars to fight against Americans' civil liberties, and for Education to audit the federal money that went to the program.

It's one of the many, tiny steps that will be needed to untangle Big Left's tentacles from America's institutions.
