FBI and the Hunter Laptop: The Truth, Parts Of The Truth, And Nothing But Some Of The Truth

One of the salutory side-effects of the Trump, Musk, DOGE and the GOP's efforts since the inauguration has been the light shown on long-concealed parts of the Deep State and its bureaucracy.

This past week, the GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee started releasing documents related to the Deep State collusion with Big Tech in 2020 - in this case, the direct collusion between the FBI and pre-Musk Twitter to shut down the New York Post's coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

And as someone who was censored fairly routingly back in 2020,  it's galling, to be polite.

The FBI's effort to debunk, and "pre-bunk", the story was large, advertent, and pretty comprehensive:

I urge you to read the entire thread; it "brings the receipts", as the kids are saying these days, with enough incriminating chat logs to launch some pretty serious coverage.

Which Miranda Devine at the New York Post did; she dug into the voluminous chat record that the committee released - in this case, a chat between FBI officials about staff at Twitter

The attorney from the FBI’s Office of Counsel is believed to have worked under former FBI general counsel James Baker, who was conveniently parachuted into Twitter (now X) six months before the election.

According to the Twitter files, Baker played a crucial role in censoring The Post.

FBI Agent Elvis Chan at one point in the chat asks a colleague: “Actually, what kind of case is the laptop thing? Corruption? Campaign financing?”

The response is: “CLOSE HOLD.”

“Oh crap,” says Chan.

“OK. It ends here.”

FBI executives swung into action to choke off the information to the post, and via Twitter:

It's hard to read the chats, and the other quotes from the committee thread and Devine's story, and not think you're looking at communications from withing a DNC campaign war room.

But no. It's the Federal Bureau of Investigation, dictating policy to a private company, to shut down discussion of a criminal matter to support a Democrat political campaign.

I like to think it's hard for the depravity of the deep state and its activities from 2015-2020 to shock and outrage me anymore, but occasionally I get surprised.
