Video: An American football coach coaches, err, football

Well, hand it to NBC, here. If you’re going to sell televised soccer to Americans, you might as well have some fun mocking the hell out of soccer. Maybe this particular ad campaign won’t reach soccer’s passionate existing fan base, famously cranky about the sport’s subjugation to our football here in the States, but they’re going to tune in anyway, and this sure get the new venture a lot of attention. And, maybe it’ll make someone like me think, “Oh, maybe NBC is playing soccer ironically. That could be interesting. Will they all wear mustaches and skinny jeans?”

I played soccer, and it’s a ton of fun on the field, but man-oh-man, it’s no football for the spectator. Enjoy as both football and football take a healthy dose of self-deprecation courtesy of Coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis):

“No playoffs. Again, my job just got a lot easier. Ties and no playoffs. Why do y’all even do this? If you tried to end a game in a tie in the United States, heck, that might be listed in Revelations as a cause of the apocalypse.”
