Hollywood Pitch Meeting: How I Can Restore 'Justice'

It’s time to restore JusticeJustice is a movie about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and his nomination in 2018. The film was shown once, at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, and then buried. I’d like to help the producers finish it. We can screen it at the Anti-Communist Film Festival

The director of Justice is Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow, American Made). Liman kept the film a secret for years before premiering it at Sundance to a sold-out crowd surrounded by security guards in 2023. For a flash, it was a big deal.

I was invited to be in Justice. In November of 2022, just before Justice premiered at Sundance, I got a text from Liman. The director wanted me to come to New York to be interviewed for what he only described as a film he was working on. “I’m an 80s guy like you,” Liman cajoled me. “I’m doing a documentary about Brett Kavanaugh.”

I knew who Liman is — a successful director of the Bourne movies starring Matt Damon. He did a remake of Roadhouse for Amazon starring Jake Gyllenhaal. He worked with Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow and American Made. The latter is the story of Barry Seal, a real-life Louisiana TWA pilot-turned-drug smuggler for the Medellin Cartel who got rich in the 1970s and 1980s before turning DEA informer. American Made is a movie for people who find the conspiracies of Oliver Stone too subtle. Liman called the film “a fun lie based on a true story.”

Liman wanted me for Justice because I played a role in the battle of 2018, when Christine Blasey Ford said that in 1982 I was in the room when a teenage Brett Kavanaugh purportedly assaulted her. It was all an oppo hit, and I wrote a book about my experience: The Devil's Triangle: Mark Judge vs the New American Stasi. For eight years, I have revealed that the media, the political left, opposition researchers, and Hollywood are an American Stasi, similar to the old East German secret police. They use extortion, intimidation, fake news and personal threats to destroy the lives of others, ignoring any facts that point away from their narrative.

Liman was frantically contacting me in 2022 because he did not anticipate my book. The Devil’s Triangle is full of facts Liman did not want exposed, which is why the media won’t touch it. Liman and his associate Amy Herdy — who has been criticized for omitting key facts from previous documentaries — talk about the “bravery” of the people who spoke to them for Justice, implying that there was a campaign in 2018 to keep people quiet. In fact, the campaign is to get people to lie and censor those like me who tell the truth. As Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said after seeing the FBI report on Kavanaugh, "Anybody who thinks this is a search for the truth and not about politics ought to put down the bong.”

After some research, my literary agent told me that Liman was producing a hit job, and that I was about to be slimed with fancy editing and fake testimony from people who didn’t know me. I declined. Even the liberal media knew Justice was a hatchet job, and a weak one. Here’s Jessica Kiang in Variety:

Yet while Liman and writer-producer Amy Herdy deliver a painstakingly exhaustive lineup of talking heads, including psychologists, lawyers, journalists…actionable new evidence — the kind that might spur another, less compromised and less rushed investigation — is in short supply.

Such redactions contribute to Justice being an entirely one-sided affair. It’s hardly surprising that Kavanaugh himself declined to appear, along with those supporters of his who were approached. But it does make the film an exercise in preaching to the choir, setting it at a vast remove from those people it might seek to convince. Not many who disagree with Liman’s underlying righteous anger will be likely to watch “Justice,” and no one who followed the hearings closely enough to share in its point of view will discover much they didn’t already know.

When I got a call from one of Liman’s producers after the film screened at Sundance and did not find a distributor, I spent about 30 minutes blasting him. Justice does not include an interview with Leland Keyser. Keyser is Ford’s friend who was allegedly at the party where the assault took place. In 2019, Keyser revealed to Robin Pogrebin and Kate Kelly, two reporters for the New York Times, that she did not believe Ford’s story. Further, Keyser said she felt threatened to change her story. “We spoke multiple times to Keyser, who also said that she didn’t recall that get-together or any others like it,” Pogrebin and Kelly reported in their book The Education of Brett Kavanaugh. "In fact, she challenged Ford’s accuracy. ‘I don’t have any confidence in the story.’”

Also not in Justice is the fact that Blasey Ford’s father apologized to Brett’s father. It doesn’t include the New York Times reporter who apologized to me, or the fact that Washingtonian magazine spent six years asking me to do a profile then spiked it when they didn’t like facts I presented. It didn’t even attempt to tell the truth about Christine Blasey Ford. In short, Justice doesn’t care about the truth.

There’s no way Doug Liman can finish Justice without my book, and yet The Devil’s Triangle dismantles the premise of his movie. So I now make a pitch to Doug Liman: I’ll save Justice. Show me your footage and let me fix it. My version will have everything — politics, courtroom drama, teen sex, skateboarding, Jesuits, 1980s flashbacks with an amazing soundtrack, and, most importantly, the truth. We will screen it at the Anti-Communist Film Festival, along with The Lives of Others. You pitched me, Doug, and now I'm pitching you. Green light this baby.
