Biden's Please Clap Moment at West Point

A year ago, the embarrassing story of President Biden tripping over a sandbag at the end of his commencement speech at the Air Force Academy took the spotlight. Fortunately, feeble Joe was helped to his feet and we were spared a President Harris situation. No one wants that.

This year Biden's embarrassing moment at a military academy's commencement ceremony occurred on Saturday when Biden spoke at West Point. He began by absolving the graduates of any minor infractions, which is traditional. He mentioned the rivalry between West Point and Annapolis, home of the United States Naval Academy. Standard stuff.

Then it happened. Biden shifted to a more serious tone. His job was to congratulate the Class of 2024 and offer encouragement as they set out into their new lives. Instead of responding favorably to his words, they were apathetic. Biden had to channel his inner Jeb! Bush and ask them to clap. "You can clap for that."

"Never forget, America is the strongest when we lead not only by our example of power but by the power of our example," he declared. The room fell silent, prompting Biden to add, "You can clap for that."

Yikes.

When Jeb! Bush asked the audience to applaud, he was holding a small town hall in New Hampshire during the Republican primary in 2016. This was the president, the Commander-in-Chief, speaking to the next generation of military leadership. They aren't falling for his malarkey.

It's hard to forget that moment. Jeb! had a difficult time convincing voters he was the best choice in 2016. Biden finds himself in a similar position now.

The most telling part is that when Biden asked the audience to clap, they only did so tepidly. They just weren't into him. Traditionally, the commencement speech delivered by the president brings enthusiasm from an audience, especially a military audience. Granted, Republican presidents seem to be more enthusiastically welcomed but the military is respectful to all of them. Some more than others.

Perhaps it was Biden's words that kept the grads silent.

“On your very first day at West Point, you raised your right hand and took an oath. Not to a political party not to a president but to the Constitution of the United States of America,” Biden said. “Hold fast to your oath.”

The President urged them to adhere to West Point’s honor code: "A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do."

It never ceases to amaze me how tone-deaf the Biden administration is and how it shows in his speeches. Biden is the most political and divisive president in recent history. That's saying something, given how life was in Obama's America. Everything Biden does is through the lens of his re-election campaign, not for the country in general.

Biden gleefully defied the Supreme Court ruling on the constitutionality of his program to forgive student loan debt by putting the burden on American taxpayers. He had the nerve to instruct the cadets to "not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do so."  You can't make this stuff up.

Joe Biden lies on the regular. He had to drop out of his first run for president in 1988 for plagiarism. What about the activities of the Biden crime family? There is nothing honorable about selling access to Biden and receiving millions of dollars from countries who wish the United States harm.  Let's not forget that then-Vice President Biden bragged about pressuring Ukraine to fire a prosecutor who was investigating corruption in the government's energy sector. Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma Holdings, the largest gas company in Ukraine. Hunter had no energy industry experience or training yet he was rewarded handsomely to serve on the board. Joe Biden was the Obama administration's point man for Ukraine. Biden boasted at a foreign policy conference that he demanded the prosecutor be fired or else he would withhold $1B in foreign aid. Hmm. Trump was impeached for a phone call to Ukraine. Biden was pretending to be a badass.

The cadets were likely thinking about the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan as Biden spoke about military readiness and might. History will not be kind to Joe Biden. He leads from behind. He plays defense on the world stage, not offense.
