Chinese Nationals Arrested Crossing the Maine Border

The southern border is a catastrophe thanks to Joe Biden's deliberate dereliction of duty. While everyone has been noticing the U.S.-Mexico border, guess what is happening? The northern border is compromised, too.

The U.S. northern border is slowly becoming an issue. As it turns out, illegal aliens are crossing the U.S. border with Canada at historically high numbers. Pre-Biden's America, the number of illegal aliens entering the country at the northern border was minuscule compared to the southern border. The numbers are still low, relatively speaking, but it should raise a red flag.

A group of four Chinese nationals was arrested by Border Patrol as they tried to sneak into Maine from Canada. A Chinese national living in New York helped them out. Apparently, he was driving them somewhere and was stopped for suspicious activity.

"After noticing suspicious activity along the border, vigilant Fort Fairfield Border Patrol agents arrested three Chinese nationals attempting to use the cover of darkness to illegally enter the United States," U.S. Border Patrol Houlton sector said in a statement.

According to the statement, a fourth Chinese national who was suspected of attempting to pick up the group and smuggle them into the country was also arrested nearby.

It added, "A driver from New York, also a Chinese national who is already in immigration proceedings, was also arrested and suspected of attempting to further the illegal entry."

It is alarming that Chinese nationals are crossing the borders in noticeably large numbers, both at the southern border and now at the northern border. What is going on with that? It's not so easy for the Chinese to just up and leave their country. Is the CCP paying their way? If they are honest people seeking a better life, and not being sent here to spy or perform other nefarious acts, why are they sneaking into the United States and not using a legal port of entry?

It is rare to find Chinese nationals apprehended at the northern border. It used to be rare to see them at the southern border until recently. Most are young men of military service age. The number of Chinese nationals who sought to enter the U.S. in 2021 was 450. The number is on the uptick. In 2022, the number was more than 2,000. In 2023, the number escalated to more than 24,314. Most alarming, though, is the fact that as of the end of January, there have been more than 18,750 encounters since FY 2024 began in October.

This latest apprehension of Chinese illegal aliens happened at the border in Fort Fairfield, according to the U.S. Border Patrol Houlton Sector. Agents say they were using the cover of darkness to illegally cross in the United States from New Brunswick.

"After noticing suspicious activity along the border, vigilant Fort Fairfield Border Patrol agents arrested three Chinese nationals attempting to use the cover of darkness to illegally enter the United States. A driver from New York, also a Chinese national who is already in immigration proceedings was also arrested and suspected of attempting to further the illegal entry," a CBP statement read.

A fourth Chinese national, who was operating a vehicle at the time, was also arrested on suspicions of assisting the others cross the border illegally.

It is not known if they were part of what the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has called the Asian Transnational Criminal Organizations. DHS said that these criminal organizations are drug smugglers on the northern border of Maine. Their proceeds finance human smuggling and other criminal activities.

It's not a good trend. It would be good to tighten up the northern border while it is still possible. However, we probably shouldn't look for that to happen until there is a new president.
