Senator John Fetterman continues to pleasantly surprise everyone on the right side of the aisle. He is a voice of reason coming from the left.
Yes, Fetterman is a Democrat and votes for Biden’s agenda. But, somewhere along the line, he transformed from a progressive Democrat to an old-school regular Democrat. On some big issues the United States faces right now, Fetterman is coming down on the side of sanity. He even did the unthinkable when he admitted that he is not a progressive. Democrats on social media took to their fainting couches. Yet, he persists.
His choice of attire is no longer the subject of criticism from those who expect decorum in the U.S. Senate. I admit I was as appalled as anyone else over the sight of a senator rolling into work dressed as though he was going to the gym. It is much nicer now to focus on his words instead of his clothes. Fetterman most recently weighed in on the subject of illegal immigration during an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN. On Friday, he stated that he is a supporter of legal immigration but the Biden border crisis makes it difficult for those seeking to immigrate legally.
Fetterman said that it is difficult for those trying to achieve their American dream when 300,000 illegal immigrants are crossing the border. Like the vast majority of Americans, Fetterman spoke in favor of securing the southern border.
Fetterman noted that he is very supportive of legal immigration, while at the same time a proponent of securing the southern border. “And I think two things can be true at the same time. You can be very supportive of immigration, but we also need to have a secure border,” he declared.
He then mentioned how the influx of illegal border crossings make it harder for legal immigrants to achieve their move to America, adding, “And I really — [what] I think about immigration is, we want to provide the American Dream for any migrant. But it seems very difficult when you have 300,000 people showing up, encountered at our border to do that.”
Fetterman concluded by proposing a “reset” on the U.S.’s border polices, arguing that Republican and Democratic lawmakers “have to work together and develop a new comprehensive solution” to solve the crisis.
The senator’s wife came to the United States with her family illegally from Brazil at the age of seven. She received her green card in 2004 and became a citizen of the United States in 2009. She is an activist who has a history of speaking out for illegal aliens. She used to include her previous illegal status in her Twitter bio but I see that has changed. Illegal immigration is such an important topic with voters this cycle that Democrats are joining with Republicans to pressure the Biden administration to secure the border.
Fetterman told Tapper that Republicans “weaponized” the issue of immigration against him during his campaign.
The lawmaker replied, “I honestly don’t understand. I don’t understand why it’s controversial to anybody to decide that you’re going to stand with Israel in this situation. I honestly don’t understand why it’s controversial to say we need a secure border.”
“I’ve been very clear, in fact, that was weaponized against me [by] Republicans in my race, that I’m very much a strong supporter of immigration, and you know, my wife’s family, that’s the origin story about that,” he added.
Fetterman is a strong supporter of Israel during the Israel-Hamas war which sets him apart from the progressive wing of his party.
Senator John Fetterman supports Israel more strongly than any other Democrat. Credit goes where credit is due. https://t.co/ICBq7CW2VF

It is also the three-year anniversary of Joe Biden reversing all the policies of the Trump administration about the border, as he he did on his very first day in office The open border is intentional. Maybe Fetterman should ask for a meeting with Biden, who campaigned for him in the senate race.
In the meantime, credit where credit is due. Fetterman is on the right side of history on some important issues and that’s a good thing.
