The biggest turkey at the White House annual pardoning ceremony were not the two turkeys, Liberty and Bell. It was Joe Biden.

Joe Biden tries a little too hard to show the kids he’s cool. The polls show that he is losing support from young voters who are credited with being a large part of Biden’s victory in 2020. So, Biden included some references to popular singers in his remarks. As usual, he gaffed his way through the lame jokes. He mixed up Taylor Swift and Britney Spears and joked about celebrating his 60th birthday.

Biden said the birds had overcome a lot of competition to be with him on the White House lawn.

He went on: ‘You could say even harder than getting a ticket to the Renaissance tour…or, or, or…Britney’s tour…she’s down in…it’s kid of warm in Brazil right now.’

The Renaissance tour was Beyonce’s world tour that ended last month.

Britney Spears has not toured for several years and is currently not in Brazil.

The president appeared to mean Taylor Swift, who is currently performing a series of shows on her ‘Eras Tour’ in Brazil amid extreme temperatures.

On Friday, a 23-year-old Swift fan died at a concert in Rio, leading the superstar to postpone her Saturday night show.

Biden thinks it makes him look like he’s in touch with the under-35 voters. Instead, he always makes a gaffe or two and gets confused. It makes him look older, not younger. There is nothing he can do to stop the aging process. Joe Biden is not aging well in political office.

He made a joke about his age.

He said: ‘By the way, it’s my birthday today…I just want you to know it’s difficult turning 60.’

The president added: ‘This is the 76th anniversary of this event. I want you to know I wasn’t there…’

He’s old enough, though, he could have been there.

Biden went on to remind everyone of the true reason for Thanksgiving. And he spoke of the death of Rosalynn Carter. Then he did what he is doing on the regular lately – he abruptly left.

This year’s turkeys are Minnesota-raised. Biden said, “These birds have a new appreciation of the words ‘let freedom ring’.

This year’s pardon highlights Minnesota’s decades-long reign as the nation’s top turkey producer. Nearly one in five turkeys raised in the U.S. are grown in Minnesota, a higher share than any other state since 2003.

Turkeys from Minnesota were last presidentially pardoned in 2017 and 2013.

The birds were raised by Jennie-O Turkey Store, the country’s second-largest turkey company behind Butterball, in Willmar. It has been 30 years since the brand, owned by Hormel, last had its birds in the White House ceremony.

“We are the country’s leader in turkey production,” Jennie-O president and chair of the National Turkey Federation Steve Lykken said Sunday.

As he has done in the past, Biden touted the large chicken industry in Delaware. He did so in reference to the size of the turkeys.

It’s an annual tradition and most presidents are a little awkward in carrying it out. There were families of staff and military families at the ceremony. It was held on the South Lawn, not the Rose Garden where it is usually held. I noticed Hunter Biden’s young son checking out the turkeys.
