Four Republican governors will visit Eagle Pass, Texas with Governor Greg Abbott on Monday. They will see up close and personal the buoy barrier that the governor, through Operation Lone Star, ordered placed in the Rio Grande River to slow illegal immigration.

The governors are Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem. All have pledged support and resources for Operation Lone Star.

Eagle Pass is a popular area for illegal immigrants to cross the river and enter the United States. They don’t go to the international bridge in the area and enter legally. No, these are illegal immigrants who make the conscious decision to disobey American law and come into the United States. They know that once they get on American soil, they will likely be allowed to remain in the United States while waiting for their asylum claim to be processed. That process can last up to ten years.

Joe Biden opened up the southern border on his first day in the White House. He eliminated policies and agreements that helped keep the border secure during the previous administration. It was a spiteful action, using executive orders to encourage illegal immigration, simply because he wanted to show that he would not be Trump. Trump, though, secured the southern border to the extent it can be secured. Barack Obama did the same. Joe Biden is beholden to far-left activists to remain in office and he does their bidding, like to support open borders.

Since Governor Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021, Texas has spent over $5 billion on the initiative. The Biden border crisis is a humanitarian and a financial burden on Texans. It is a national security threat to the state and our country. Illegal immigrants don’t all remain in Texas. They have fanned out across the country and continue to do so.

The group of Republican governors are coming to support Governor Abbott and his fight to protect Texas and the southern border. Without borders, the United States loses its sovereignty. Texas has been left on its own, as have other border states, to protect its residents and land because the Biden administration refuses to do its job. Then, when Texas does act, Biden’s DOJ tries to stop it. The buoy barrier is being challenged in court by the Biden DOJ. The DOJ is taking the side of Mexico against Texas in this battle. Last week in court, a survey was released by the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC), the bi-national agency that oversees the Rio Grande. The survey claims that a majority of the buoys are illegally placed on Mexico’s side of the river.

Texas denies that claim. Governor Abbott said that the buoy barrier was carefully placed so that it remains on the Texas side. Joining Governor Abbott Monday will be Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw, Adjutant General of Texas Maj. Gen. Thomas Suelzer, and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks.

Abbott will hold an afternoon press conference in Shelby Park in Eagle Pass with the four visiting governors.

In his weekly report on Operation Lone Star on Friday, Abbott said since Operation Lone Star began, the multi-agency initiative has led to the apprehension of over 414,000 migrants and 33,200 criminal arrests, including 30,100 felony charges.

A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Austin on the federal lawsuit against Texas.

The survey was conducted by both the United States and the Mexican offices of IBWC in late July in response to a lawsuit against the buoy barrier. The results were finalized on Monday by commissioners for both countries. It stated that the string is 995 feet long and the survey found “787 feet of the buoy chain is located within the territory of Mexico.”

The documents were filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in Austin in a lawsuit brought by the U.S. federal government against Abbott and the State of Texas. The Justice Department is asking for the removal of the marine barrier.
